their bets and make sure their interests are protected. >> rose: are they prepared to engage in north wazirstaney were in south wazirstan? >> i think that's something we'll see over time. right now the challenge for their military is they are very much stretched by the operations they've taken on so far? >> rose: have you convinced them they should think less about india and more about enemies within? >> well, i think that's something that's a big part of the dialogue is trying to understand their threat perception, having them understand ours. and helping to talk that through. >> rose: one of the interesting things that i've learned from talking to people like you is listening. you know, you want them to define how they see their national security concerns. and ask if there's something you can do to help alleviate those concerns, or help change those concerns, that they feel threatening. >> i think that's job number one next week is to listen. and i think they are coming-- what we've asked them to do is come tell us how you see the world and what your strategic concerns are, and what you need.
