as we continue our live team coverage, nbc10's drew smith was reporting yesterday in north wildwood at the height of the blizzard. the wind gusts were at full force. drew is live this morning in wildwood again. a little steadier out there with the winds certainly dying down. drew, earlier this morning we had the last of the high tide roll in. tell us what you're seeing in the aftermath and the wake of it. >> reporter: not having to hold onto the hat this morning, which is good news, but take a look at the bad news. this used to be a beach. this is no longer a beach. the atlantic ocean has come up and taken out the entire dune here. this was all covered up after superstorm sandy and now it's once again exposed. i was just speaking with a city council member. he said this is concerning. if the sea wall wasn't here, he says this -- we just shot some video down in wildwood where it's still flooding, but it's beginning to recede. power crews are trying to restore power as the wind knocked out power. still about 4,000 people without power in wildwood. further up in avalon and stone harbor. t

>> reporter: and we are in ocean avenue in north wildwood.ou see how the flooding is picking up here. that is the street. there you can see the water moving out in the streets. problem here is the wind. a lot of this moisture headed towards us is not the rain. we can't tell what the rain is anymore. it's the ocean. there is all sorts of waves starting to breach the sea dune here. sea started to see this happen a half hour ago, and it's got worse in the past ten minutes. if you want to look at how bad the wind is, you can just take a look at how the water from the ocean is moving directly horizontal. up here at the stop sign, too, whipping around in the wind. another problem we've been having out here is power outages in wildwood. right now, lights are on in this home here, which is good news, but because the transformer issues, several thousands people down here without power. we're watching the water. just on the other side of the dune over there, is the ferocious ocean now, and the waves are certainly starting to come right over there, and

she's standing by live in north wildwood. trish. >> reporter: good evening, rick. i want you to take a look at the beach behind me. crews are hard at work. the down here at third avenue is destroyed. the mayor says it could be months before it's restored. many residents here spent the day cleaning up the storm damage after what they say was a scary weekend. >> we're used to in michigan 185-inches of snow and this is a lot worse. >> reporter: karen batch row spent much of the day cleaning out her muddy garage trying to figure out what she could salvage. this is her first north wildwood winter and she and her husband larry spent more than 24 hours without power or heat. she showed us her basement that took on about 4 feet of water just shy of the flooding that took place during superstorm sandy. >> when the water started coming in at 6:30 in the morning on saturday morning, and we looked down the basement stares it looked like it was the sinking of the titanic. >> reporter: people were throwing out debris and damaged possessions after a weekend of wild weather. this

the tide was higher here all time record here in wildwood and north wildwood. so, big problems getting these dunes rebuilt backup. so, they do have one, here we are on the other side of the dune you can still see they have some dune left, some protection left but as we walk up you can see where these dunes are in relation to where all of the homes are and this is the nicest section of the wildwoods. so good protection from the dunes but dunes now need protecting as we see sun coming up over the the little mound left of dune f we walk on that dune we would drop 20 feet and good thing nobody is walking on these things in the dark because that is something that you wouldn't survive, mike and alex. >> and the governor blaming -- >> a lot of people are upset. he said is there not that bad. >> you have to put up those dunes that would protect your town. of course, he is in new hampshire and off to iowa today. >>> p pa, that would be the pennsylvania parking authority. >> philadelphia parking to. >> pennsylvania. >> it is philadelphia. >> philadelphia, pennsylvania. >
