what we saw in northeast houston was extraordinary. this was a poor neighborhood in the northeast section of houston. we were out with a private team of rescuers. a guy named seth roberts was leading them. it was him, one other guy who is a veteran, and a petroleum engineer who had an air boat who were going out into these neighborhoods, pulling people out of their homes. we came across two families who were waiting on the hoods of their cars, and they had been waiting there overnight for anyone to come and rescue them. the guy i was with, seth roberts, said he tried to get to that neighborhood last night. it just got to be pitch black and they couldn't see anything. they had to quit late. they ventured out there and took us with them today. i spoke to a woman named marilyn rice and her daughter lisa shortly after they were rescued on the boat. take a listen. >> everything started floating and we picked up what we could to try to save it but it didn't do no good because the water just took over everything. >> they were going to send som

northeast from baton rouge. hopefully they can get better before they get another 6 to 12 inches of rain and parts of houston and that high dew point is feeding off of the gulf, so they are not done yet with these feeder bands rotating in. out to the northeast of houston we see the heavier cells. for us fog is coming back in but not making much of a push for many, and if you are inland it will get very hot. on the coast it's going to be nice, as much as a 40 degrees spread, no delta breeze whatsoever. 50s, 60s and 70s already, warm for some and warming up quickly. when you get the fog coming in, it can make a tricky time. 70 in calistoga with the warm airlock, low 60s and 50s in the mix. clouds banking up on the coast but being held in check by the strong high pressure. 63 in ukiah, sierra nevada also warm to hot. for us 60s, 70s with a few 80s, and well intend -- inland it is going to get very hot at livermore, concord and gilroy along with other areas. we will get cooler for the next few days. >>> right now the commute is off to a nice start. driving on the super commute from gilroy to san jose, not a bad driv

they have 40 inches of rain in northeast houston. that 24 hour total is 16 inches around houston. when you get 40 inches of rain you are going to have problems, and that is the issue with that slow-moving system that got caught between that ridge of high pressure to the west and that low pressure to the east. it is still tracking over the gulf, 87 degrees with the dew point high that funneling in that moisture with those feeder bands. they are getting a bit of a break from some of those bands but still plenty to go. that tropical storm is not moved past houston, some heavier rain has moved to eastern texas and louisiana but they are not done. this system is only crawling out of the picture so we is going to be another day or two. for us fog and 60s on the coast, hot inland. smoking hot temperatures and cooler for some. one of our viewers from walnut creek said he does not remember moving to arizona. i would agree with that. i think this was the hottest summer of my life. scottsdale was nice at 118 degrees and july is usually hot here. and mexico it was 96% humidity. i have had it.
