drew smith is live in northeast philadelphia. drew why are they so upset? >> reporter: well that group came back here to the fox chase school. they were holding signs like this that say stop the cuts as well as northeast philly matters too. now, they marched down to a local lawmaker's office because they want answers from both their lawmakers and the city of philadelphia as to why some of that money is not being divided evenly among all of the schools. about 30 minutes ago they started with a rally here at the fox chase school saying that they've seen a new budget. they worry northeast philadelphia is getting left out of the whole picture there and they want to know what kind of formula the city is using to divide its budget among the schools. >> if we knew that there was another school down the street that they really needed it for this reason maybe we wouldn't be so angry. but there's no transparency. >> we asked mayor michael nutter about this issue. he says right now he's just focused on getting a spending plan approved. but his superintendent does work

men who robbed a man in his home just after 11:00 on the 6600 block of heg german street in northeast philadelphia. rbers pulled a gun on a man outside of his home ordered him inside and stole cell phones. >>> a mother of four in philadelphia faces charges after police say she locked her kids in a basement for 12 hours as punishment. "nbc 10's" matt delucia is live at the special victim's unit in hunting park. matt, tell us more about it. >> tracy this woman is likely to face several charges including endangering the welfare of a child. we could see the children playing in the lobby doing well after police said they had been locked in a basement for 12 hours. this happened on east atlantic street in kensington. four children two boys and two girls ages 9 to 13. one of them happened to have a cell phone that would only dial 911. that is how they called police. firefighters had to break through a second floor window to get in and get the children out. at this moment the incident is believed to have been punishment for one of the kids stealing money. >> she's a single mom going to school, going to wo

a look at northeast philadelphia atlantic city just shy of the 60-degree mark. cape may is waiting for rainfall that's going to be moving in and intensifying during the day. right nowlight rain showers to extend through montgomery and bucks county. glenside is getting rainfall right now. and into northeast philadelphia the heavier showers are steadier moving through chester and into delaware. just a few raindrops on the scene right now. as far as the heavier downpours that are possible this afternoon, they are well to the west moving into west virginia. temperatures will be moving up in spite of the rainfall. it won't be the all day rainfall. showers on and off as they break to bring us 70 degrees briefly this afternoon. most of the day will be in the 60s. at 4:00 this afternoon, 69 in philadelphia with the heavier rain just off to the north and west. and the showers continue into the evening hours. then by 8:00 this evening, the heavier downpours in delaware and south jersey. but temperatures will still be in the 60s. grab the umbrella and wait for the showers.

breaking news in northeast philadelphia where emergency crews are rushing to help a philadelphia police officer who was involved in a crash. this happened just a short time ago on cruise town road in bustleton. part of cruise town road is closed for now. we don't know what the officer was doing when this crash occurred or how badly the officer is injured.
