in northeast washington, rescue workers pulled a worker to safety after he fell down a th ro.af sneeg b the scene began arounan g in t a morning at a half finished building on 1st and k streets in northeast. firefighters say a worker on the eighth floor lost his balance and fell down a shaft about three feet by four feet wide. authorities say if there were not a piece of plywood that fell in front of him the situation could have bench worse. >> fortunately debris fell ahead of him, a piece of plywood, in this case, which blocked his fall. had that piece of wood not fallen ahead of him, he may have fallen as much as 60 or 70 feet. >> firefighters rescued the man by bringing him down an interior elevator. he was breathing and conscious. authorities say the worker was seriously injured, but is expected to recover. >>> now to a developing story we are following out of montgomery county. fire investigators are looking into a series of morning fires as possible arson. there was a total of seven fires. four hey fires, and three mailbox fires. and they were burning near kings valley road. the

on hayes street in northeast washington, a shooting victim wheeled from a house and taken to the hospital. his clothing inspectednd taken in as evidence. police sources say he was one of at least five victims wounded in a shooting at the bus shelter area of the minnesota avenue metro station in northeast this evening. it's unknown how the victim ended up at the house after being shot. but police say the victims range in age from 16 years old to their early 20s. none of the injuries is considered to be life-threatening. police say it appears at least one gunman on foot opened fire on a huge crowd of people at the shelter and say many of the people are believed to have attended a go-go event paradise day and were shot after leaving the party. police worked the scene for hours interviewing victims and witnesses and marked gunshot cangs and other evidence and wheeled away this bike believed to be somehow connected to the shooting. police are still investigating this case. they're saying there were at least five victims. they're trying to figure out if there were possibly more and trying to fi

not a great morning for folks that live in northeast washington on kennedy street. the work crews behind me are trying to repair an 8-inch water main that bursts early this morning. when it blew, it created a large sinkhole in the middle of kennedy street and took out water service in the area. residents that live in the area wonder if it had to come to this. sherman hughs scrambles to fill buckets with water. he figured it was just a matter of time before he and his neighbors had no water. >> right now, no water at all. prior to them cutting the water off, i was able to fill a couple buckets for flushing purposes. and also for washing purposes. >> reporter: the problem is a water main break. a sinkhole marks the trole spot. the flowing water under minds the pavement and sent sand and gravel floating down the street. buddy lee's car was parked by one of the areas, and a neighbor called him so he could move it in time. >> i came out and the car was cu gushing up under the car, and i could see the water gushing out of both holes, and i was able to anst t my car and dr
