and right now, the northeasterly wind is down to 5 or 10 miles per hour. and it's rare to get snow in washington in october. we have only had it happen three times when we had measurable snow. and october of 79 was the last time. 32 years ago. that's how rare this is. we have a winter storm watch out all these counties in blue, and all of these counties around the blue ridge, and then maryland's counties along the pennsylvania border and up into pennsylvania, and that extends all the way up into new england. the storm watch means accumulating snow is likely and it could be five inches or more. all of this coming from a storm center into the tennessee valley, and some of the moisture and southern west virginia, it will take a while to get here, because it will track a little further east and move along the atlantic seaboard and help up towards boston. and right now a chill in the air. out of the mountains, we had quite a bit of frost there. from the shenandoah east, not a lot of frost, above freezing in most locations and right now above the 40s. and in the

right now it is bringing in an easterly flow, a northeasterly flow, which is bringing warm, moist air toward our area. here is the breakdown. the higher elevations are going to get snow. but for us, because of the way this wind is flowing out of the east, we're going to get the rain. as this thing moves up and gets closer to the maryland coast, the winds are going to shift out of the northwest. this brings the cold canadian air down with it. that moist air, with that cold air, brings that snow line closer to the greater baltimore area. you can see pretty much the entire state to the west is a snow event. then as this moves on, we get that westerly flow with the chilly air, which we are going to feel tonight heading into tomorrow for the ravens game. futurecast shows a wet day all day. i stopped it at around 6:00 because it looks like that's when we will really see winds shifting out of the northwest, bringing with it snow. you can see baltimore county, carroll county, frederick county. the city stays in the green. think i it will be a mixed bag as far as rain and flow snow throughout

as the highs move in the winds come from a northeasterly direction typically this time of year.what we have. if you saw the fog at the gate this evening you saw how pinched down it was. within a few hours it was gone. that's high pressure squishing it down and getting rid of it. it's also high pressure warming the daytime highs for tomorrow. it will warm. as the air sinks it warms. 53 in santa rosa, we're down in the 40s. even upper 40s in santa rosa a few days ago. light offshore winds. not enough to make you make your fire concerns go to a red flag warning. but a warming trend as we go into wednesday, thursday. and even friday will still be pretty warm. thursday is the peak day for heat this week. when i'm talking about heat i'm talking about mid-80s, maybe some upper 80s. maybe coastal a low 90s. not expecting any records. but we are expecting a really nice forecast period. as we go into tomorrow afternoon, those oranges are 80s. that's warm. plenty warm. the warmest it's been in a while. you will see some 70s at the coast. upper 60s and low 70s. 81 in napa, 83 in fairfield.
