welcome to "this week in northern california." governor brown is continuing the trade mission in china this weekend. he signed agreements between trade between china than california and help one of the polluting nations to improve air quality. he signed for a major development near jack london square. he promoted high speed rail. today, the governor presided over the reopening of california's trade and investment office in shanghai after ten years of it being closed. i spoke with john myers, political editor for kxtv news 10. john myers, welcome. >> good to be with you, joshua. >> how is governor brown doing so far? is he accomplishing the goals he set out to accomplish? >> i think so. jerry brown really had two goals, i would say, on this trade mission here to china. we're in shanghai. we're in the second of the city he is visiting. long term. he wants a long-term relationship with china. more economic trade. more investment. more partnerships. he signed formal agreement was the chinese on economic issues. the governor is looking

heading into that time of year where we're going to hit significant fire weather and knowing northern california as we are now but eventually southern california, one of the most effective ways to stop the fires from growing is that initial attack, which means we need to be able to quickly put resources up in the air and move them. i guess my question is from a national guard perspective, from a naval perspective, with the helicopter resources down there, do you feel you would be able to quickly move those resources and you have the agreements in place. we'll start with the national guard and work on our way down. >> although we're advertised as a one week a month and two weekends a year, i've got crews on pretty much every day and if cal fire calls i can get crews out in just a matter of hours. we did do that about two months ago, the robbers fire, and it worked out real well. cal fire went in real aggressive and put out the fire in a short period of time. so there's no issue with us being immediately available, we've got our buckets, crew trained. >> as an example of that, 2007 we saw -- 2003

welcome to "this week in northern california." one year ago this week, the shootings in oakland took seven lives. today, the national debate of how to stem gun violence continues. california already has some of the toughest gun laws in the country. berkeley assembly member's bill to regulate purchases cleared a committee this week, but requires full approval by the assembly. >>> on the news panel is david bak baker, tom vacar, ktvu news editor and then carla marinucci. president obama's first visit to the bay area since re-election wasn't without controversy. republicans accused him of coming to billionaire row and protesters accused him of coming to the aid of keystone xl pipeline. carla marinucci, i know you were at some of the events. what was the purpose of the president's trip in. >> the purpose was money. this was the president's first trip since re-election. the san francisco bay area and atm. he was doing a favor to nancy pelosi to come into san francisco to pick up $3.25 million in two events in one night. >> not bad. >>

first off the san francisco district serves northern california, santa cruz to the border and san francisco is not all of what we do. in san francisco last year we did about 200 sba loans and average loan size is $500,000. it's pretty good size. it's not the micro-programs that we support through the lenders and working solutions is one of those and we have others in the city and the bay area so we so micro-lending support but the main program is a guarantee loan program and 100 banks do those loans in the area and just san francisco city we did about 200 loans for about 105 million -- at 100 banks in a year. of that about 25% of the total for women owned business and 10% in addition were 50-50 ownership so about a third of the lending in san francisco we did last year were for businesses majority owned women or 50-50 women owned business so a significant percentage. nationally it's 20% of all sba funding is to women owned business so compare san francisco to the rest of the country we do larger percentage in san francisco. again those are larger businesses. as i mentioned they're businesse
