it's not so dry up north, of course, it's actually been quite wet up in northern california and northf the golden gate, especially this year. but southern california has not gotten any of that moisture. it's been bone dry there since the summer. >> still, we have had a bit of a dry stretch here in the last week and a half or so in northern california. but you're right, we have seen a lot of rain so far this rainy season. are there any lessons for us here in northern california for you? as we look at the fire fight down in southern california, as we potentially prepare for the next round of fire season here in norcal? >> well, you know, northern and southern california do have somewhat distinct fire climatologies in the sense that there is always a somewhat more risk of fire extending later into the season. in southern california, a december and january fires in general are not unheard of down south, although the scope and devastation from these likely is in this case. but i think maybe the lesson for northern california here is that last season in southern california was exceptionally

comparing northern california, as you mentioned, to southern california. so notice this is the bay area here. look at the percentages right up top here. so we did really well so far for northern california especially when you look at this. and then let me take this further south compared to southern california we've got much drier conditions, a lot less rain. you know it's looking a lot drier in comparison there. but yes, it does include the sierra snowpack as well, because that's another key component when it comes to not only the water supply. the sierra snowpack plays a big role in the water supply. and i do have the latest numbers for this. this is looking like 84% right now of the statewide average. you'll also notice there the difference between north at about 125% versus south at about 56%. so definitely brings an impact there to the sierra snowpack. but we're hoping that fruary might play out as a more active, you know, month for just the state of california in general. that would be very helpful. all right, vianey, thank you. well, desperately wan

a sharp ridge over northern california. and then there's that area of low pressure down in southern california. that's where we have the most intense winds developing down to our south. but we still have some breezy to windy conditions out there. and you saw the nice camera showing you some high clouds out there. high clouds have been increasing over the past few hours as far as the current wind reports right now. novato gusting to 24 miles an hour. these numbers are not too bad, but they could pick up overnight tonight. sfo 20 miles an hour and livermore gusting to 29 miles an hour. a bit of a warm up today. these winds wiped out that fog from yesterday. and as a result, temperatures right now still in the upper 50s to the 60s. our camera is dark, but we still have some high clouds drifting in right now. and as far as the overnight temperatures, we do have the wind advisory until 10:00 tomorrow morning. lots of areas in the 40s to around 41 to 45 degrees in san jose, 46 in antioch. what about the forecast as we head toward

a man has been arrested in connection to a fire at an historic mansion in northern california. officers with the california state parks department announced today. 30 year old kevin carlson was arrested thursday after they say he set fire to the bidwell mansion in chico on december 11th. the victorian mansion was built in the 1860s by john bidwell, who founded chico. carlson is now facing several charges. a popular pizzeria in benicia is reeling after the former bookkeeper was arrested on embezzlement charges. 42 year old jessica rose carpino, a mother of three, is accused of stealing at least $141,000 from pizza pirate. carpino was first hired eight years ago. we spoke with the former restaurant owner, patrick abshire, who who owned pizza pirate for 30 years, but he was forced to sell it in september because of financial problems. >> very disappointed and frustrated and depressed because, you know, this was my life for 30 years and i really wasn't ready to move on from it for a few more years till i could retire. >> the suspect has already made bail. the solano county district

just such a difference between southern california and here in northern california. we've had some rain. we're actually above average. they are way below average in our winds. we haven't had that many dangerorous wind red flag warnings. we did have a wind advisory, but that's since expired. and tt rely is the big difference. i mean, we've seen several inches of rain here throughout the bay area over the past couple of months, where they've only seen less than a quarter of an inch. so we would have been under a red flag fire warnings. but because of that recent rain, that's the only reason why we are not. winds are starting to calm down. we'll get you a closer look at that microclimate forecast and what we see happening for us. and you'll see the only spot here with winds that are noteworthy is mount saint helena, still clocking in here out of the north at 30mph. all other locations five to about 15. so it was certainly very bumpy early this morning with a lot of gusts. if you're at 500ft and above, between 50 and 60mph, a little bit scary. but again, thankfully all o

washington, oregon, northern california all the way down to about the bay area.eeing that line of rain there, it does kind of hold right there. take a look at saturday morning, 7 a.m. moisture still streaming over northern california all the way down to just about the bay area. and then as we get into sunday, more of the same, a little bit of a ridge right in here, helping to deflect and keep that storm track a little bit north. and some of the models are predicting way more rainfall for the north bay then for the south bay. and you can see southern california not likely to get anything. here's a look at what we're seeing through sunday evening, where areas like redding crescent city, 3 to 4in of rainfall, we take a look at santa rosa 8/10. then you get to san francisco. a few one hundredths. you get over towards santa barbara, la and san diego, and we've got zeros there. so we will continue to fine tune this as it moves forward. but right now, it looks like friday will be the first opportunity for wet weather to return to northern california and for at least par

hundreds of firefighters began moving on a sunday afternoon from northern california into southern california but local partners began up to staffing their own fire station. helicopters, fire engines, hand crews to be better for an incident that occurred with those resources were pre-position and counties throughout southern california for an event just like this. on tuesday morning the palisades fire again. i like to introduce you to chief who will touch on the palisades fire. >> thank you. thank you so much mr. president. we are provide you fires that have occurred in the city of los angeles. with that that were focusing on the palisades fire. that was around 10:30 a.m. and deployed a number of resources. the new there was potential for significant threat to our constituents due to the weather events. hi, hi, winds we move forward as much as possible and deployed with that of fire occurred that center hasn't grown from originally 10 acres 10,000 acres active active firefighters to the very best to protect our people within this area. because of the winds on the low humidity second fire also

contacted the state office of emergency services requested 250 additional engine companies from northern california staffed with over 1000 personnel. at this time, the state of california, exercising their emergency compacts with the western states of arizona, nevada, utah, oregon and washington. 4 additional firefighting resources and personnel to come to los angeles county to assist us with this widespread fire emergency. one data point it's that we have 60 units responding from oregon. 45 units responding from washington. 10 units responding from new mexico. 15 units responding from utah and numerous units responding from arizona. currently the national weather service has predicted that this red flag warning will remain in effect for los angeles county and much of ventura county through friday. thank you. and i would now like to invite up to the podium, los angeles police chief jim mcdonald. thank you very much. chief. i just want to say a few things. fire officials there in los angeles talking about the devastation with slew of fires, 2 main ones and the magnitude of this. and also mutual aid

always going to hit northern california this time. now, the last trains. they were of a southern california that these winds are in northern california event and the dividing line so far cutting corners. some of the forecast model seems to be somewhere around the golden gate. the dividing line between main and no rain. so we're going to call it for pretty rainy this weekend in the north bay and a chance of rain just about everywhere else. and then look at this midweek next week. looks like we could get some more rain. so maybe the storm doors open now. take a look at temperatures 50's 60's. a lot of similar numbers in san francisco mid-fifties and mid 50's also right along the coastline. they shoreline. guess what? yeah, it's more mid-fifties. so no big change in numbers is so you start to head south little bit mountain view. 59 and then santa clara valley. little bit warmer. gosh, 6.63 for santa clara and san jose. 61 for dublin. 62 livermore after a chilly start and numbers in the 50's and 60's right along at the bay shoreline for oakland. 58 in the 60's

of it, the fire was spotted 2 to 3 miles ahead and truly indicative of what we have seen in northern california is that the fire is hopscotch and through neighborhoods. you have some homes that are absolutely gone and behind it and apartment building that is still here. we've seen residents walking through the neighborhoods, lugging suitcases and whatever they can carry out on their backs. this eaton fire is where five people have been confirmed dead. firefighters hope the favorable conditions over naval health -- allow them to get an upper hand on this. what we've seen is neighbors trying to help neighbors and no doubt we will hear stories of survival and stories of struggles. we were talking with folks across the street and they were creating their own bucket brigade using garbage cans full of water that they've been lugging throughout the night to try to save their homes which is across the street from where we are here. still a very dangerous situation and as we keep talking about, the main influence is the wind. >> i am curious as you navigated your way there, what struck you the most? was

agency is set to decide on whether to help fund a major project that would move water from northern californiasouthern california. governor newsom has been pushing the state to spend $20 billion on the delta tunnel project. concrete tunnel would carry water from sacramento to -- from the sacramento river, 45 miles under delta marshes to pumps near tracy. and then it would be diverted to other parts of the state. supporters say it would help move water to storage areas and avoid waste. and they say they would degrade water quality and harm wildlife. the santa clara water district will consider contributing more than $9 million towards planning for the project. once again, this is the delta tunnel project, which has been in the area for several years in sacramento, once again, bringing water from northern california down to southern california. >>> okay, a live look right now from high above l.a. county, as we continue to look at the wildfires right there. let's go ahead and check in with our forecast. >> i'm going to start with the situation in southern california, as well as the winds earlier.

where as northern california continues to do really well and the dividing line is palpable, if you will, or noticeable. look how dry it is in southern california. i mean, 4%, 4% 11. you had santa rosa, almost 200% over 150 for redding. that's good for shasta because they rely on rainfall more than snow melt. and crescent city's almost up to 36in. so it's a definite dividing line there. no rain this week. everything is quiet, but boy is it foggy out there for some. not for all. but novato sold out. napa airport, also around parts of 80 around san pablo bay, petaluma, santa rosa, also out towards fairfield, cordelia, american canyon, hiddenbrooke anywhere around there. watch out for some thick fog, some on the peninsula. half moon bay, also on the san mateo coast, has zero visibility. a little northerly breeze in place. might pick up tonight. tomorrow, as the system digs into the to the east. there. 30s for a few. 40s for most. i mean, it's just 40s in there holding court, but even to the north, it's low 40s, even 50 bodega bay and 40s for marin county, napa, sonoma in there. so some of t

we've had a decent amount of rain here in northern california, but in southern california they've had virtually nothing. l.a. county has only had a 10th of an inch of rain since may. the national weather service says the red flag warning there is expected to continue until 6:00 tomorrow evening. back to you, dave. all right, ali. >> thank you. time is 706. other smaller fires erupted across hilly areas of l.a. as well. in the hollywood hills, firefighters put out an overnight fire that erupted and burned 60 acres near thousands of homes. mandatory evacuation orders were in place for a while, but most of those orders in that area have been lifted. now, the rest of the evacuation orders will be lifted at 730. firefighters are going to stay out there this morning just to keep an eye out for flare ups. and in studio city, a fire erupted along laurel canyon and mulholland drive. the flames engulfed a four story home, then the home collapsed on the hillside. the fire then spread to nearby brush, brush and buildings. thankfully, firefighters were able to get this fire under control. >> now,

well, that long wait finally over for crab lovers in northern california. the new fishing season began early yesterday morning, and that's after several weeks of delays. we'll show you san francisco's fisherman's wharf video here from yesterday morning, where crab lovers waited a long time near the water. that was even before the first boats docked with their catch. bay area crab fishermen say they are relieved to finally get back to work, make some money and get this new season underway. >> glad they came out and supported us. it's been waiting a long time. so yeah. credit card bills are racking up, so i'm happy just to work right now. as salmon season is closed, most fishermen are salmon and crab. salmon season has been closed for the last two years, and crowds have been shortening down to smaller and smaller. >> northern california's dungeness crab season normally starts in november, but the state pushed back opening day because they worried whales would get tangled in the crab fishing gear. similar delays affecting the crab season have happened several

we're ok, we saw quite a bit of rain in northern california, even into the bay area. yes, we'll see a few clouds here. and there. but overall, we are in great shape now this morning, some numbers were in the 30's. in fact, we had temperatures hitting freezing in the north bay in the east bay. and you know what tomorrow morning will be a lot like this morning. the snow advisory in effect tomorrow morning, like there was today, but you'll see 30's and 40's for temperatures and the high temperatures tomorrow. a lot like today. pretty much everyone in the 60's. so if you're in san francisco, you'll see numbers in the 60's. if you want to head to the coastline, maybe head to the beach in half moon bay. 61 degrees for you. you're going to stick on the peninsula. maybe the bayshore line numbers again in the 60's. so we'll see lots of sunshine. few high thin cirrus clouds at gentle offshore breeze. turning a little bit more onshore. some of the warmest numbers in the santa clara valley. 69 for san jose and santa clara. also numbers in north bay numbers still in the 60's every

we've had so much rain specially northern california, north of the golden gate bridge. that's where the focus of all the heavier amounts of rain. you get to southern california. they're running a deficit there. but yeah, we're gonna get a little more rain overnight tonight and some of those storms, of course, having causing other issues. we've seen the santa cruz wharf collapse, at least part of it as we have some of those big waves moving along the coastline. you're looking toward half moon bay right now. nice evening out there. a lot of folks out there walking along the coastline and enjoy what was a very comfortable day. but those waves are building again. we've had these large storms that have been generating this wells in the middle of the pacific and well, they're going to get to it again. and you can see the rain on not all that far away. already moving to northern california now, but off the coastline. but once the storms start to develop over the open ocean waters, that's where we start to see all those wind just kind of whipping across the pacific. and all of a

and after a little bit of rainfall here in northern california over the weekend, we have dried out, southern california also drying out after some much needed rai and really, what we're setting up with through tomorrow is plenty of dry weather that's going to enable those temperatures to drop. you'll see it right here on the satellite radar picture how the clouds right there arcing way off to the north. that's from a strong ridge of high pressure. and then here's the developing atmospheric river well out towards hawaii. pretty common for them to form out there. these atmospheric rivers tap into a lot of subtropical moisture. and eventually we'll start to see that lower here across the west, that's going to begin to increase our rain chances as well. but it's not as simple as just heavy rain everywhere. we're going to get you more in the particulars here, coming up in a little bit, but let's roll it right into tomorrow morning's forecast, where we'll start it off with 36 across the south bay. so chilly, 38 in the peninsula and 35 here through the tri-valley. so you know the drill. layer it up

that's when i'm going to stop it here for you by the morning hours over washington, oregon, northern californiawn into lake county, as well as the north bay. and there's a little bit of a ridge that kind of parks itself over central and southern california that keeps that rain line right about there. here's a look at saturday morning. notice it right in here. notice the rain line just pumping that moisture into northern california all the way down to the bay area. but we are right on the cusp there. in fact, the north bay may get a lot more rain than the south bay with this system. that is going to continue to just bring in the moisture. here's sunday morning, still raining over northern california and perhaps the north bay as well. so when it comes to the accumulation, here's a look through sunday afternoon. and you'll notice over areas like crescent city, three inches of rainfall a possibility. then you get into santa rosa 8/10 of an inch. you go towards san francisco. it drops off dramatically just a few one hundredths expected there. and over southern california a bunch of zeros. so we will
