you have travel for family or friends, the worst of it in northern oklahoma, missouri, kansas, nebraska, iowa and eventually tonight into illinois and chicago. but for them, just a glancing blow, not as much. the highest snowfall totals will be in the pink shading here. 6 to 12 inches is a pretty wide swath of 6 to 12 inches of snow. the little area near i-35 north of wichita and kansas city, possibility of over a foot. there's a lot of cold air behind the storm through the inner mountain west. a lot of the cold air remains settled over much of the west from seattle, 46. phoenix this morning is at 40 along with friends in vegas. and that's not factoring in the breeze with the windchill. the storm itself is gone, so that's good. and now we have another storm diving down in the northwest. it does have some rain with it with snow at the highest elevations. we have winter weather advisories for the cascades, but for the most part a light rain moving down from the northwest with this. hopefully the olympics will shadow a little bit. we won't get a lot of heavy rain in areas like seattle, but you won't see showery-type weather. temper

winter storm warnings more widespread extending into northern sections of illinois and chicago underwinter storm watch because they could be seeing over six inches of snow as we head into tomorrow. by tomorrow evening many of you heading home from work in chicago will be looking at pretty dangerous conditions on the roadways. otherwise on the southern side of the system warm temperatures, humid air than that will be firing up the strong thunderstorms across eastern texas, louisiana, a very widespread area. extending into southern areas of georgia and the florida panhandle. tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, large hail possible and expecting to see heavy rain across sections of georgia. flooding will be concerned. a foot of snow expected from the texas panhandle into sections of missouri. a widespread area expecting a hrofrt snow. jon, the one little bit of good news is that we do have drought conditions across the center of the country so some of the snow will produce a little bit of a dent in the drought conditions. georgia also under a drought getting some much needed rain. jon: that

across southern, illinois, indiana and parts of northern kentucky. i have been showing this, got to show this. such incredible drought, some of the worst droughts across parts of the plains. this kind of snow is exactly what we need and we will get a bit more of it. over 14-inches in wichita. most of what we will see now is towards the northeast of that. as you were saying, shepard, a severe side of it. tornado warnings throughout the day today. for now, parts of laz heading into southern areas of mississippi. as the daylight ends less of a threat of tornadoes and more of a threat of wind. i want to just take you forward over the next say 18 hours or so you you see the snow pulls to the north and rain spreads off towards the east and by tomorrow afternoon start to see the mix here across parts of virginia and maryland and north carolina. the last thing we are going to do with this is a potential kind of coastal storm bringing snow to the northeast on sunday and very significant rain to the south, potential flooding across the southeast. we have about

to the north, the snowstorm from kansas, nebraska, iowa, northern missouri, portions of illinois.in areas of louisiana and east texas. how much snow? this isn't feet of snow. some areas of kansas could end up 12 plus or so. the big cities like kansas city, tope topeka, manhattan, wichita city, 6 to 12 inches. that's a high-impact event in the midwest. the rest of the east coast, you're fine today. you're actually fine for a couple days here in boston. but the weekend -- this would be the third weekend in a row with nasty weather conditions. we've had two huge snowstorms in a row. the possibility of a third one. notice the temperatures, though, a little warmer. we could mix in with rain on this one. it may help us out a little bit. our very reliable, european computer model, the one that's nailed the last two weekend snowstorms in new england, is predicting as much as 6 to 12 inches. again, we're still four or five days away from this. these are rough estimates. but it at least shows you the potential is there for another high-impact snow event as we go throughout saturday night an

illinois. a snowstorm, though, from kansas to northern missouri. braska, iowa and eventually tonight into illinois. so the worst of it this morning, wichita, kansas. it's just getting nailed. they've had thundersnow and sleet mixing in for the last two or three hours. i-35 almost impassable now from around the wichita area up to emporia. it is soon going to be snowing in kansas city. the morning rush hour there is going to be very, very troublesome. snowfall totals, again, this pink color is 6 to 12 inches. a very large area. somewhere a little band just north of wichita and kansas city near topeka will end up with a foot of snow. that three to six inches is huge. it goes all the way to green bay to chicago to st. louis. my big-city snowfall totals when it's all said and done, a foot possible in kansas city. omaha, wichita, a little less than that. just a glancing blow really for our friends in minneapolis and chicago. you can probably deal a little better than your friends to the south with three to six. and everyone in new england, we're okay the

northern plains. wind chills are still beyond bearable. minus 40 in duluth this morning is the lowest on the map. chicago does not feel pleasant along with all of our friends from illinois to ind und aiana . louis dropping down. you get that cold, we'll get snow moving through. if you look out your window in washington, d.c., to baltimore, maryland and delaware, it is snowing. you could get an inch out of this, just enough to make your morning commute a little bit treacherous. of course, we have the know bands coming off lake michigan, erie and ontario. as far as the forecast for the weekend, a couple clipper lows diving down. we'll have three or four different storms over the next five days. that will provide a chance for snow. we have the one in d.c. that will exit. then another one coming down saturday and sunday. so today's forecast, besides the snow in d.c. and the glak, otherwise, it's a dry day. we have a lot of warm weather this weekend if you're in the rockies or texas. you're not complaining at all. then on saturday, here comes that next little storm. it's going to bring snow to minneapolis to chicago through iowa and illinois. saturday night through the ohio

northern virginia and maryland near the bay waters in the upper 30s there. here's the storm beginning to take shape coming our way. it's a way out in kentucky, indiana, ohio, illinois tennessee. that's heading to the east and getting closer to us. no precipitation in the metro area. no travel problems. all the pavement is dry. here's the timing. by 1:00, 2:00 this afternoon, some sprinkles of light rain in the areas in green moving in. but the areas in lavender, this could be where we get a little wet snow accumulating in the highlands much west virginia moving into the shenandoah valley. this is 4:00 in the afternoon. all rain east of there by 4:00, 5:00, 6:00. a rain/snow line this evening. this is south and east as of mid-evening this evening. by midnight, we might get the wet snow moving into the area. between midnight and 2:00 a.m. there might be a light coating. on the eastern shore after that, quickly moving out. we'll see the sun back tomorrow. here's how things look for accumulations. less than an inch in the area in light blue. most of that only on grassy areas. melting on roadways. mostly all rain south and east of there. the areas in the darker blue mig
