upper 20s across parts of northern maryland. here's a look at radar. even most of this is not reaching the ground there's a few snow showers and snow flurries reported across parts of southern virginia and southwestern virginia. this is all moving in our rection so basicallyalong and to the south of 66 might see the chance of a passing snow shower or snow flurry but that's about it. real cold stuff up across the great lakes. advisories, only winter advisory out acss north central north carolina. reinforces my thinking that there's not much of a threat for accumulating snow today. area low pressure off the georgia coast for now headed up the eastern seaboard. the track is just enough now off the coastline where we don't have much of a threat. the cold air is in place. about this time tomorrow morning 6:00 tomorrow morning the coast still south of cape hatteraseras north carolina and there's the northern most fringe of the snow chances coming right u into southern maryland and lower parts of the delmarva. as that storm goes further up the coast it should

we have in winter weather advisory stretching fro northern virginia, northern maryland. this is in effect until 9:00 a.m. we're expecti a half inch of snow. road crews were pretreating all over the area. they were concentring on the problem areas. >> we'll have 300 trucks out tonight putting salt on bridges, overpasses, ramps, all the areas prone to freezing. >> reporter: so here are the service roads. that's a good idea of what the roads will be looking like when you come out. it's not wet, it's not icy but there's the possibility slick spots given the rain we had yesterday. so be careful as you're driving. roads looking good so far. watch out for drivers around you. hopefully we'll get through this. back to you all in the studio. >> tracee, thanks so much. the same story we are seeing toy has shut down roadways and caused major delays and cancellations across the midwest. more than 1,600 flights were canceled yesterday in chicago as more snow continued to blanket the city. one man flew to d.c. from st. louis, where he says the conditions are pretty bad. >> very bluster

same thing with the northern ne and other portions of northern maryland, picking up some snow. only about one to two hours of snow but it was enough to provide a litt bit in the way of some accumulation. especially on those grassy surfaces. the temperatures, 32 degrees. the windchill of 19 with those winds out of the wes northwest at 22. but gusting upwards of 30 to 40 miles an hour. we are going to see a very cold night and a very cold air mass over the next couple days. 28 right now. actually 26 right now in sterling. 30 toward quantico. look at the windchills. frederick, maryland, 15. hagerstown at 9, the windchill in sterling, ten degrees. this is the kind of windchill we're going to be dealing with oh the next couple of days. overnight, i think we could see windchills in the single digits as we see our storm system continue to move off. in behind it, a very cold air mass moving straight in from nada. tomorrow morning, the windchills will be between five and ten degrees across the entire area. bundle up. >> not sure we're ready for th. the cold weather is taking a toll on c

the northern half of the beltway into maryland and we are seeing some additional snow. it is light snow but it is snow. it is a persistent band of snow that has been moving from the northwest down to the southeast, moving across 270 now across portions of the bw parkway. snowing right now in clarksburg. look like northern and eastern portions of gaithersburg, olney, you are getting some snowfall. near beltsville, some snowfall and up into frederick, maryland. this is mainly light snow but it is sticking so some additional light accumulations. we are not talking about significant accumulations at all but just a dusting and enough to cause some slick spots and some problems there. this winter weather advisory is in effect for this morning pretty much where you see the snow, that is where the advisory is. the district is included. that pink out to the west is a winter storm warning continuing into western maryland, portions of west virginia and worn portions of the commonwealth of virginia, they will get some additional snowfall there. right now, very cold, 23 degrees at r

northern virginia since the snowstorm started. virginia state police say they had 109 traffic crashes, 135 disabled vehicles and 555 calls for service. road crews have been salting and sanding throughout the area. in maryland, local and state crews have been out in full force, some, would go 12-hour shifts. highway overpasses and bridges are expected to be a big problem as well as they freeze in the overnight hours. now, d.c.'s secondary roads are still slick and slushy out there which will all make for a slow commute this morning no matter where you are headed. one of the big problems, highway officials say, is that the temperature yesterday never really got above the 20s. so all of this stuff stuck. overnight, it melts, it refreezes. they are out there, working arrested trying to make sure the roads enter good shape for the morning commute. but they are still telling people you have to be cautious. don't ignore the situation. be cautious. give yourself some distance and give yourself a little bit of extra time getting into work. on that note, let's turn it over to julie wright who is on the phone. i hope you are cozy and warm this morning. >> yeah, that's wish. thinking. we are still experiencing areas o
