and the persistence of light to moderate snow from really washington northbound into northern maryland has continued to add onto the snow totals we picked up during the last couple of hours. most of the snow has been confined up the 270 corridor to frederick, maryland. that's where the bulk of the snow has been. montgomery, frederick and loudoun counties. there's more moisture down to our south streaming in our direction so we're not done with the accumulation of more snow just yet. i don't think we're going to add a whole lot more, maybe an inch to some spots getting an inch or two is a possibility. mostly rain south of the city but 2 to 5 inches and more in spots, possible north and west, but not a whole lot more additional accumulation from here on out. snow totals for this storm generally 2 to 5 inches or more across northernmost maryland. amostly a slushy inch or two. >>> meteorologist tom kierein continues our team coverage. >> right here in the storm team 4 x 4 on interstate 270 heading northbound. there's a lot of road spray but we're right in the thick of that snow that chuck

check in with chuck bell for the latest on the snow. >> snow has tapered off a little bit across northern maryland, but it remains washington southbound to southern maryland. that's where the big winners are in snow accumulations so far this morning. winter storm warning all over the shenandoah valley and blue about a half an hour ago, they expanded the warning to include stafford, fredericksburg, northern neck and much of southern maryland. snow totals likely to be on average 3 to 6 across most of the area by the time it comes to an end. could have slightly higher amounts in st. mary's. biggest concern is a risk as it changes from snow to rain this evening into tonight. there could be a period of accumulating ice. so we're watching for that. again 3 to 6 inches for most. snowing the most across southern maryland and this will expand northward again with time. be careful. again, moderate snow down across southwest virginia, that is the next batch which will be lifting back northward into the metro. so we're not done with our accumulating snow threat just yet. everybody not just below freeze, but w

especially northern maryland. this remains a very challenging forecast. as i said during the 10:00 news it was easier to forecast the blizzard. temperatures have a lot to do with that as well. we'll also waiting to see if some bands of heavier snow will set up. as of right now you can see we don't expect to see much in the way of accumulation and this might be over doing it just a little bit because as i look at some of the new information tonight it may take until noon to get some of these numbers which is why it will be a challenge for the schools in the morning. we may end up again with some areas, especially north, on the four to six inch amount and here in the district it could be between one and four. right now temperatures could be on the lower end of that. here's the setup with our area of low pressure eventually transferring energy and getting over to the coast. t tuesday morning that process still underway and so into the afternoon that's when we may be able to get some of the heavier bands that would get us more significant accumulation especia

frederick county and maybe the northern maryland counties north of ixts 70 and again really is just a waiting game. but when you analyze everything and you give everything once over in the atmosphere what's going on it looks like warm air will be able to come across. visibilities are still greatly reduced eighth of mile here in town. quantico half a mile. not only do you have to deal with slippery roadways this morning especially neighborhoods and secondary streets awful. you have to deal with reduced visibility around the metro here. it's better down to the south. this is leonardtown. you can't see it because of banner here at 10 miles and cambridge at 10 miles too and warm air comes out across. we're still 31 now will be at freezing or below for at least a couple more hours. and you can see, here, 48 degrees. this is leonardtown. cambridge 48 degrees. that continues to come up. we're beginning to see some of of this warmer temperatures creep up to northern calvert county. perhaps southern prince george county over to charles county. again all of st. mary country in the 40s now. balt
