we had a family house in northern michigan that is in his legislative districts. i am one of his constituents. i made the visit to the chairman's office to really offer to help in any way i can. of course i will be responsive to congressional requests to come and testify about the budget, about the issues in our department. we called him we will make every effort to have the witnesses that he wants their when he wants them to work with his staff around schedules. having a schedule is appropriate. it is information he needs to have for himself and to answer questions from constituents. we look forward to that. we want an open and honest dialogue. we want to give them the information in a timely fashion and fully intend to do that. i hope that what will happen is a good dialogue and information sharing. there are a lot of new members of congress who do not know about the progress in our agency, much less the rest of government. there is going to be a learning curve and an opportunity to share information about the range of programs and the impact we have on individu

up here in northern michigan, it's pretty bad. and so i'm doing what i can -- i've actually been pushing them up here to appoint some jobs ga ambassadors. i may just appoint myself. because i really want to spend a good chunk of this year encouraging businesses to start coming to michigan. people here are so in want of a job, they will work their butts off to have good employment here, good middle class jobs. and there's so much talent here. we live in this incredible state of michigan, that gave the world all these inventions. i mean, thomas edison grew up in port huron, michigan. henry ford from dearborn. there's a guy from battle creek that got everybody to eat breakfast, mr. kellogg. this is the state. i mean, berry gordy and motown. there's always been so much creativity here. and it's such a great place to come and to live and to base your business. so i hope that i can do my part. yeah, that's -- i don't know if they were going to give me a portfolio, because we have a republican governor now, but i just think, i'm just goi

michigan. it's something we need to look at it. it really does need to be looked at not only the southern border, but northern boersel tow llionsf llsn ts. t effective? every time we turn on the tv, you can't go a week without hearing about border violence that's spilling over into the united states of america. part of this was started in the bush administration, but when you look at what's happening with the so-called cybersecurity and all the things happening with the virtual fence, there's a lot of concern there because it doesn't work, and i don't understand after literally a decade of deep concern that's happening out there that we still aren't able to secure our borders, and then to hear what's happening in michigan, they look out their window and laughing. that's something to look at. >> host: the congressman has a bachelor's degree in communication. he was the utah co-chairman for michael caucus' campaign while in college, and then a democrat, became a republican later, and served on chief of staff after being the communications director and campaign manager in 2003 and the incumbent gop in 2008 in the primary in this case.
