and gerald you have been pushing for jobs in northern minnesota.e mining resources are finite is this really a long-term solution or does it just delay the inevitable? >> well, as one of the other interviewees mentioned, the minerals are owned by the people of minnesota actually through the state, and it's important to point out in 2011, mining industry contributed in the way of production tax, royalties and so on, $152 million. out of that $64 million went to support our educational systems, both the university systems and the -- and the undergraduate schools, the high schools, and elementary schools. there are 11,226 people that depend upon fairis fining -- mining and the wages and salaries that are paid. to talk about what that means the people here in direct wages that are paid. it means everything. and we believe that the copper-nickel mine, the polymet mine can be permitted responsibility by the state of minnesota and the epa. we're not choosing between degrading the quality of our water, and -- and the need for jobs, or the -- the reason for

portions of northern minnesota saw a couple inches of wet know.ome areas near lake michigan saw shower activity. you can see the chilly air moving down. as this cold air comes across the great lakes, looking to have the first lake effect snow of the season. that means you get the cold air moving over the lakes and picks up that moisture. if it's not low to mid 30s, temperatures cold enough for snow you will see a lot of areas around eerie, buffalo, cleveland may see some snow. particularly the end of the week as that cool air moves across the great lakes. the front to the west of it, not sure if it's much of anything. it will pick up moisture. clouds coming in late tomorrow night. we may see some rain with that front. we expect to see something develop off the east coast, means enhanced rain along the coast. tomorrow night and wednesday morning is your best chance of picking up rain. behind the front it turns chillier, quite a bit cooler by wednesday, thursday and friday. temperatures running about 8 to 10 degrees cooler than normal. we will talk

there were protests outside the metrodome in minneapolis, northern minnesota, native americans came uplike the name washington redskins. this has been going on for a long time. why all of a sudden, and i say it over the last year or so, after 20, some, 25 years of this conversation, why is it such a heated conversation right now? >> it's a great question, ed. because the story has exploded over the last year. and there are really three reasons for why this is the case. the first is the active intervention of native american tribes. the oneida indian nation, the choctaw indians of oklahoma and midwest. they have stepped forward and they have said, you know, what this is not okay with us. the oneida nation has bought commercials and dc radio, sports radio air time and they have actually also organized demonstrations in places like green bay and one coming up november 7th. but there are two other reasons, as well. the first is that the team is relevant for the first time in 20 years. i mean, back when george h.w. bush was president and that is was the last time washington was in the super

northern parts of minnesota, i mean the northern parts, probably not the city is getting some light snow. most of what we're seeing is the feeling of cold air. freeze watches for parts of wisconsin this morning, all the way down to tennessee, for example, some of those freeze warnings in effect, and that's some of the coldest air of the season. watch the vegetation if you still have any left outside. temperatures in the 20's and 30's in the northern midwest. it is a brisk start. most of these temperatures while significant don't go up too much over the day. minneapolis making it to 38. the average temperature this time of year is 56. we're running with temperatures about 20 degrees below average. this is really the cold core of the country. if you want to see the leaves, they've been beautiful, i got out to see them in connecticut. still 60's with the sunshine there today, that is one of the better spots. even though they're gorgeous understands minnesota and wisconsin right now, it's a little on the chilly side. along the gulf coast is a disturbance area. >> a dramatic train rescue caug

last night central minnesota take a look at that! the northernhts, the aurora borealis particles from the sun sent 93 million miles in our direction, they energize our upper atmosphere. that's the result a beautiful sight in minnesota. but our weather has been beautiful around here. but tomorrow things change. a fire danger is going to go up. a red flag warning is in effect for all of our higher elevations, same thing we did last week. the reason why, gusty wind and a dry weather pattern with northeast winds low humidity levels and those wind gusts could be in excess of 30 miles per hour and those same areas anywhere above 1,000 feet like the oakland hills, berkeley hills. you're going to see some wind gusts localized 45 to 50 miles per hour. so we are going to get windy starting tomorrow and lasting through the day coming up on friday. winds will calm down by friday night. let's talk about why, because it also plays into our temperature forecast. low pressure on the move is leaving the pacific northwest. that is key for us because look where it'
