only areas that are going to deal with any significant amounts of snow is northern new england up in the mountains. albany, troy right now. we have snow mixing in with sleet. temperatures are starting to rise. anywhere from the capital district northern mass, southern new hampshire, vermont, that's where the snow is currently. boston. started off as a little snowflakes. now changing over to all rain. same goes for providence. really all of connecticut is looking like a wet road forecast. there is also heavy rain down there around new york city. at least for the next hour or two. as far as snowfall goes, not a lot of heavy snow. much of the cities in maine, two to four inches. white and green mountains will get heavier snows. that's the ski resorts. tomorrow will be the day to ski on fresh powder. we have a storm located near detroit. it has a band of moisture coming behind it along the cold front. this is bringing snow down through the quad cities, much of western portions of wisconsin and even our friends in st. louis are getting some of the first snows of the season. and that should

also northern new england, same for you. we hold on to enough cold air that we'll get snow out of this. some areas will start off as snow and transition to ice and rain. a cold shot of air, 18 in billings. final i, winter is returning here. this cold air will race in behind the storm. we get a significant lake-effect snow event and also regular plain old snow in the days ahead. this is mostly thursday, not today, thursday, snow on the backside of the storm as it lingers in the great lakes. chicago right now 3 to 6 inches for you. we could see a bullseye somewhere from madison to lacrosse. as far as new england goes, this looks like it starts tonight. we'll mostly be all know, the higher terrain of ver monday, 6 to 12 inches. great news for the ski areas, the adirondacks and the catskills. maybe a slushy coating to start and changing over to rain areas like boston and province. today, fine travel day. exception being the southeast. veronica, the cold air in winter finally may be -- i don't want to say returns, maybe it finall

temperatures were still chilly in most of the mid-atlantic and even some subs 0 readings in far northern new englandand terrible it was for below zero to start the day. -- in care of though it was for below zero to start the day. with the sunrise and a southwesterly breeze we ended up 22 degrees normal -- 22 degrees above normal. the normal high is only 41 degrees. our 63 degree reading was way above normal. 72 is the record high and that is safe for another year. echoes back to 1950. we had 3 inches of sw on this day in 1980 that but nothing in the rain gauge or on the snowboard to run the region today. we are looking at a dry weather forecast until the middle of next week. randallstown is at 49 degrees. columbia and howard county checking in at 50 degrees. cooling to 44 on the coast and ocean city. 53 in southern maryland. temperatures are well above freezing in the mountains. and little cloud cover early in the day. the temperature climbed 30 degrees within a four hour time span in baltimore. it will cool off rapidly to that with mostly clear skies. the normal high as 41. some spots and baltimore

-canadian border, is a relatively mild nationwide with the exception of far northern new england. 10 inches of snow around caribou tonight. today in baltimore, 66 officially at bwi marshall, 68 degrees at the inner harbor. normal is only 42 degrees. we did not make it to the record high of 69. nothing in the rain gauge yet, but that is going to change. this month is only going to rank 26 on the list of all-time warmest january in baltimore. we have had some warm winters in the past, including 1932, 1937, and 1933. a really warm decade there. this year, incredibly mild, not much snow, but not record- setting. 49 on the coast down at ocean city. the naval academy has been bouncing back and forth between the 50's and 40's, depending on which way the wind is blowing. otherwise it has been mild state wide and will stay in the upper 30's in the coolest spot. the lows tonight will be more -- warmer than the typical high. caribou is at 9 degrees right now, but the next system coming our way is generating just rain. for our region, scattered showers tomorrow, temperature still above normal. a
