as far as the forecast is going to go, as we head down into areas, especially of northern texas, that'shere we have some storms this morning. nothing too bad between amarillo and lubbock. as far as severe weather goes, about 2.5 million people in slight risk of severe weather. we could see an isolated strong thunderstorm with damaging wind and also hail just like we saw yesterday. and the possibility of flash flooding, too, with any storms that linger over any one spot. texas has been in a drought over the last couple months. the end of summer was very warm and very dry. so drought conditions have now spread. so this is a forecast we like this slow moving storm moves across texas. it's going to be a three-day soaker here. areas around dallas could pick up four inches. houston, san antonio, as much as one to two, maybe even three inches of rain. the rest of the country is great. jonathan, if you like the warm, beautiful fall weather, great lakes into the mid-atlantic, the next two days are for you. because it's going to be like 75 degrees, low humidity, very enjoyable. then we cool it of

'lot going on right now in the state of texas. this is a forecast just for tomorrow and we have places that have gotten well over a foot anticipate a half of rain already so this adds to it and it could get an additional foot. it's slowly migrating eastward

mexico and western portion of texas, but it's the heavy rain that's going to be more of a concern for us, especially as this spreads. this is just the next 24 hours, but northern parts have texas, easily places that could get four or five inches pretty widespread. this morning, already in anticipation of that, we have flood watches out and then back into new mexico, you can see the oranges, that's where we already have the potential for strong storms, thunderstorm warnings. this leaves heavy rain. the eastern half of texas is still dry. we could use some of that and more starts to spread into the midwest by friday. texas to mississippi this geese are the dry and drought conditions, but flooding may happen. >> this isn't the beginning of el niÑo yet, is it? >> we've actually been in el niÑo for a while. we hope for the best prospects from that on the west coast for the winter. >> federal investigators suspect a lone arsonist have been setting fires to black church. >> there are six fires in two weeks. john henry smith has more. >> fire department officials in and around st. louis have no doubt the fires that burned six churches there are the work of an arsonist

even like five days from now, it's going to drift towards areas of new mexico, west texas and then go back over northernexico and back to california. it's going to do the loop de loop. thankfully this storm does not have the moisture with it. doesn't have the atmospheric river and a hurricane to steal from, that's why we're not going to see torrential rains and horrible flooding. we see this isolated flooding in areas of new mexico and west texas. a couple showers and storms even at this hour. they'll be enhanced later on this afternoon. as far as rainfall totals over the next three days, nothing epic. but you notice west texas is pinpointed the possibility there of three to six inches. the other story, although we were a little cooler than the great lakes, a lot of the country still seeing a very warm period of weather. 90s today in texas. 90 in dallas. 69 in chicago. the next three days look very warm. and even all the way to the east. it looks like we're -- this is like a late summer feeling to it. cool mornings but the afternoon will be very mild. enjoy it. >> sounds wonderful. thank you so much. >>

much because the rain has been coming down relentlessly here in many parts of it or over the northern part of texasrt said they received here in the town of corsicana, nearly 17 inches of rain since the rain started yesterday and caused quite a bit of problems. this is interstate 45 which has been closed for most of the night. and just moments ago started reopening. they're now in the process of clearing out miles and miles of cars that have been backed under here on the interstate because the road has been covered in water for much of the roadway. for now, the rain has receded and slowed down. the floodwaters have dropped back. it's open, that's good news. but we're told as the rains pick up later in the day. and floodwaters come back up. there's a chance they might have to shut it down again. they're trying to get as many people through as possible. >> ed lavandera, take care of you and your crew there. >> let's bring in cnn meteorologist jennifer gray tracking the storm as it continues to break down. and those mountains helped earlier as you said to shed the storm. it's a major challenge here. >

that gave all the rain over the past especially southeast texas, parts of southern mississippi valley, as well. stalled front, carolinas, northern georgia, maybe a shower or two, maybe a shower northern michigan form a cool front and storm system coming in to the west. so washington, oregon, norther california getting some rain showers. you can see chillier air has settled once again into the middle and eastern portions of the country by wednesday then that storm out of the gulf comes north. the storm in the west comes east. and this is a huge weather maker. lots of rain for northern plains into the ohio valley parts of the great lakes, tennessee valley. some of that will be soaking rains, another decent system. this is the second one coming into the west coast, giving some rain there. that ones moves into the four corner region on friday, giving showers and even some thunderstorms again into parts of texas, new mexico, but cooler and even colder air moves into much of corn belt as we head through next week. back in our next half hour with our longer range outlook. thanks, mike. when we come back, matt bennett be right back.
