i'll give you the specifics on northern virginia. we are here on military road and quincy in arlington. right now about 50 intersections are without power. as you can see here we have power along military road. this is a typical scenario, power has been restored to this area, but you'll see we've got this emergency tape up here and the reason why, is there is this power line down along quincy. if you walk along part of this may still be electrified, so this gives us a situation where we can tell folks if you see lines down you definitely want to stay away from them. we do not know if power is in this line. this comes along to this oak tree right here, massive tree that is gown here -- down here along quincy, blocking the roadway and depriving this particular neighborhood of power. virginia dominion is expecting to get about 80, 85% of its customers in northern virginia back with power by tuesday. folks who live in these little neighborhood communities, these people are probably going to be looking at possibly thursday for restoration

dominion reports more than 150,000 customers in northern virginia are still without power this morning. joining us on the phone is dan genesse with dominion virginia power. are there small pockets or are you still having widespread areas that you are dealing with? >> we are still dealing with swidwide spread areas. there is catastrophic damage and pockets of catastrophic damage throughout the northern virginia region. the goal to today is to start to actually get back into the neighborhoods and start to get some of those homes back online. >> some of your restoration times are not available at this point. can you plain to us why. i know a lot of customers want that information. >> we would love to able to provide it to them. we know how much they want it. we find this early in the stage in the restoration process, if we put a time out there, it is likely not to be accurate and that is more frustrating than not having a time when we put the times out, he want them to be as accurate as we can possibly make them. >> can you tell us when you might have the individual restoration times avai

right now, though, 60s across much of northern virginia, much of maryland and west virginia, but it'soing to be getting more humid as the morning progresses. in addition, there have been a cluster of thunderstorms that have been rapidly developing in pennsylvania, now moving into western maryland, garrett and allegany counties. those storms are moving east quickly, but not severe. they do have quite a bit of lightning with them and some heavy downpours. and if those hold together, and they might, they'll be near the metro area by about 9:00, 10:00 this morning. all these areas in yellow under a severe risk zone. that would generally be between about 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. tonight is when we could get some stronger storms that might produce some wind damage, and unfortunately, could cause some power outages. before then, though, the areas that don't get any rain will likely climb to near 100 degrees by mid-afternoon. this is your "day planner." in fact, by noontime, might have a few lingering thunder showers coming through, near 90 by then. but most of the afternoon feeling uncomfortab

a traffic alert for drivers in northern virginia this morning. a three mile stretch of the gw parkway will be closed today as crews clean up a tree downed from a store. it it. >> lesley: be between belle view boulevard and collingwood avenue. >> a police officer that made a threat against the first lady is on desk duty. he said he would, quote, take out the first lady at a morning roll call meeting. another often heard it and the secret service are investigating. other officers could be in trouble if they heard it and did not report it. the officers reportedly made the comments during the last rich to richmond in may. secret was ask agents said there was no criminal wrong doing, they were fired for conduct unbecoming of an officer. >> the president continues his tour today with stops in richmond and in cliffton. he took aim at romney's tax plans. he said he is on the side of american businesses and wants to do everything he can to make sure they succeed. >> he wants to give tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas. i want to give tax break

we're down to about 130,000 customers or so in northern virginia.equates to about 70% of the customers being restored to service since the peak friday night, but we have a lot of work left to do. i was looking at some of these subdivisions, and we're get a lot of help, but we're having to rebuild these facilities from the ground up. trees have leveled or poles and wires. we know customers' patients is wearing thing, but be assured we're working around the clock on this. >> you said you have to rebuild this. we were looking at some pictures over in laurel and maryland, that's not easy to do. you can't just throw up new utility poles and string up electricity in a matter of an hour. correct? >> correct. again i was with some customers today, and they were amazed at the steps. we have to untangle the trees and wires, make sure the facility is safe. then you have to bring the poles in and augusters, even hand-carry the poles into areas you can't get to with trucks. it sounds simple, but very, very labor intensive. >> ken, do you still want to hear from
