vdot is northern virginia i'm talking about and mdot 17,000 lane miles in the state plus 44 miles of the beltway. ddot will have 300 trucks out and again they're mainly working. they always focus on those bridges, ramps and overpasses. metro remains on normal schedule. they expect to be that way tomorrow, but canceled today was marked. their decision tonight will be for the a.m. commute. metrobus probably will be restored tomorrow but on a limited service. there may be closed roads or icy they can't reach. d.c.'s circulator bus is canceled tomorrow and d.c. is still under the snow emergency plan. no parking in lanes with red and white signs. if you are parked there tonight, $250 fine plus towing and if you're towed, there's the number to call. let's go to our chart camera. there was a longstanding overturned tractor trailer on the eastbound side of route 50 outside the beltway at route 704 cleared about 10 minutes ago. it happened at 11:45 this morning. it took a few hours. we'll go to virginia on the north bound side of i-95 which is clear in springfield. it's not the volume, but yo

analyzing radar the last hour and watching these trends of increasing scattered sprinkles across northern virginia and into montgomery county and howard county and northern anne arundel. these are showing up, scattered speckles here on the storm team 4 radar. off to our west, this area in green, that's light rain now near luray, shenandoah valley, west of there, into the highlands of west virginia and western maryland. east of there getting scattered sprinkles now from hagerstown toward boonsboro in washington county. this is a bigger area of rain in southwestern virginia. still about 2.5 hours away of getting into the metro area. that puts it in here around 8:30 this morning. have an umbrella with you before you leave. you'll be glad you did. and you won't need your winter coat. a lighter jacket will do. we are in the 40s now much of the metro area. and near 50 degrees across northern virginia. now reagan national is at 49 degrees. a look at your hour-by-hour friday and friday night forecast next weather & traffic on the 1s at 6:11. maynard edwards, good morning. things still rather light? >> yes

mid 30s across northern virginia, maryland, the district, and nearby suburbs. around the bay and farther west, too, above freezing. however, at the higher elevations off to the west, that is where temperatures are a little below freezing. the storm team 4 radar showing sprinkles of light rain, west of leesburg, the blackberry at warren and clark county. south of front tropical charlottesville. a few sprinkles of light rain falling into some subfreezing temperatures at those higher elevations. that may cause some icing west of the metro area during the morning. and these zones in lavender, until 11:00 this morning. this is the higher elevations along south mountain and braddock mountain, catoctin mountain in frederick county and washington county. then farther south along the blue ridge. these are the main areas where we may get a little light icing and slick spots from some very light freezing rain and light freezing drizzle. then rain likely moving toward the metro area later today. here's the timing on that. perhaps by around 10:00, 11:00, likely forecast for

a number situation in of neighborhoods across northern virginia. the officials say that the plows are still out and they will be working throughout the day in all of the counties in northern virginia. they are also looking to try to alleviate some of this. when temperatures get down to so cold, that mixture just does not work. so we are left behind with this. this is a streak that has already had one pass through from the plow. here just a slick sheet for people who are going to be driving this morning. this is going to be a problem for a number of people. we do understand that cleanup crews will be working throughout the day. i do hope that by the end of the day, they will have all of the plows through all of the neighborhood streets. they will be able to get through on one pass, but may not get down to the pavement. i hope to clean some of this up. if you do have to head out this certainly be careful. it is not just the streets, but also the sidewalks that have a similar situation. back to you guys inside. >> she says that it does not feel like m

a raid at a northern virginia day care, the owner's husband was selling oxycodone seat away from where the children -- feet away from are the children were playing. police were tipped off on that story. how did that happened? >> a confidential informant took police who in turn tipped off the fbi. this is a major trafficker. the informant says he bought drugs from that man for three years in the shadow of a day care center. witnesses tell us that before daylight wednesday morning, fbi agents were all over this triangle townhome. the little angel day care center . nearby business owners were stunned. >> i see them every day. did not know something like that was going on. >> agents arrested ralph caldwell, the husband of the woman who owns the day care. it identified caldwell as a distributor of large amounts of oxycodone. the document also says caldwell was operating out of the alley just behind the day care center. four times in the past two months, the feds say caldwell sold drugs there to a confidential informant wearing a wire. the document says the informant observed caldwell operat

jeff pegues is in northern virginia, jeff? >> reporter: scott here in fairfax, virginia, they've been fighting five months of grueling winter weather. they haven't had record snowfall here but the virginia department of transportation is spending more money than ever. in northern virginia the 23rd winter storm of the year, not only brought ice and several inches of snow, but it's also blowing away the budget. branco vlacich is which the department of transportation. >> our budget for this year started out at $63 million. but right now it looks like it's probably going to be close to about 150 when we get done. >> reporter: more than double the budget. >> more than double the budget and we still have a few weeks of winter left. >> reporter: there are 18,000 miles of road in this area that have to be plowed. and when you factor-- factor in the manpower, the 4,000 trucks and the salt, just clearing the streets and roads adds up to $1 million an hour during the storm. and the costs pileup even when the snow doesn't. >> the next ch

you see the blue area covering much of northern virginia and western virginia across southern portions of maryland into delaware. 3-6 inches of snow across delaware, but once you make your way down to washington d.c., we could have 6-8 inches of snow. winter storm warnings and advisories that could continue into the evening and tonight. this band of snow will push offshore, and winter storm warnings and advisories extending back to kentucky. across the southern plains, the cold air is pushing down, and i'll tell you one thing, the temperatures have dropped significantly in the last 24 hours. certainly across san antonio and dallas, texas. we have a 40-degree difference. mardi gras getting ready to be started. a 30-degree difference as well. we should be in the 80s, but we're only in the 30s. corpus criste this morning, we could see ice on the roads in the houston area. back to portions of dallas. if you're traveling on i-10 or i-35, just a little bit of ice goes a long way. we could see accidents out there if folks are not using caution on the roadways. back to the bigger picture now,
