come forward accusing 33-year-old charles young of abuse as he worked at dunnbar high school in northwest d.c. >> reporter: d.c. police say the investigation began last week when a student at dunbar senior high school in northwest told the resource officer that he was a victim of an active sex abuse that happened in the fall of 2013 and that the person who abused him was 34-year-old charles allen young, who worked as the school's community development director and helped with the track team. >> we obtained an arrest warrant yesterday charging him with one count of first-degree sex abuse of a child. >> reporter: the young man had been reluctant to come forward but something else changed his mind. >> he heard there may have been subsequent victims and he felt an obligation to come forward and did approach one of the sors at the school. >> reporter: in a letter sent home to parents steven jackson wrote i am deeply upset about these allegations. on monday, dunbar counselors will be at our school to support our students. young worked at the school for less than a year. jackie bensen, news 4 today.

it happened right at 14th street and otis place in northwest d.c. janette reyes is live with why neighbors say this is a pretty dangerous intersection. janette? >> that's right. it's quite a terrifying incident out there. as you mentioned, that boy is in the hospital recovering from those injuries after he was struck by a car right there behind me at this intersection. he was on the crosswalk early this morning. witness said the boy was lying on the ground conscious and crying and his father quickly ran out to his son. others try to keep the boy still while help arrived. the driver remained on the scene. this accident happened around 8:30 this morning when a lot of people, especially children are heading out. as soon as we arrived here, we heard quite a few angry neighbors and residents that say this is an ongoing problem. an elderly woman was hit along the crosswalk a few months ago. she is ok, we're told. residents say the drivers do not stop for p.e.d.'s. -- pedestrians. >> the moment the cars keep by you, they don't stop right there. the partner

. >> reporter: within hours, 31-year-old paul xavier williams of northwest d.c. was in custody. >> they're so close to home. it's right here. i mean, it's too close, you know. i don't wish it on any other neighborhood or anything like that. but to have right here like that, you know, it's really sad. >> reporter: this is not the first time williams has been arrested. according to court records, he was arrested just blocks from here a few days ago. charged with misdemeanor assault and theft. he was released, pending a court date next week. >> that's our system. that's your justice system. i don't get it. >> reporter: police records show this latest attack is not an isolated incident for this neighborhood. take a look at police data from crimes within 1,000-foot radius of the school. five sexual assaults. 13 robberies. ten more robberies using a gun. and in the past year, a total of 42 violent crimes. and if you add in nonviolent crimes like burglaries and stolen cars, the numbers almost double. 82 total crimes within a few blocks of this school. >> it's really sad
