i did a debate with howard dean over and northwestern university about two years ago. i was asked by a student, what is the greatest virtue of america, and howard dean answered adversity. i said, well, no, you got that one wrong. diversity is a wonderful thing, but the key to america is the fact that people who are diverse can come together to be one. e. pluribus unim -- out of many, one.
