joining us now is ken hoffman. alix: is supply cuts really aren't affecting prices, what is the number one thing a driving metal? >> the u.s. dollar. you can look at what the dollar is doing and say that metal is going in the opposite direction. it has been driving us for quite some time. alix: you also look at the u.n. -- the yuan. you look at the onshore and offshore rate. what are they and why are they significant? we look athe things is the carry trade. all of a sudden, if people have to pay a lot more dollars to do these financial traits, they will not want metal. a will put metal back on the market. if i am a traitor looking at 2016, the thing i care about is and the -- the yuan offshore yuan. it is like a black market yuan. that will spook metal traders. scarlet: there are signs that china is guiding the yuan weaker. what does this mean for metal prices going forward? if the yuan is to materially weakened, it will have a major negative impact on metal. it would cost them a lot more to get the metal and they

ken hoffman joins us now from princeton new jersey. let's talk about what anglo american is doing. mentioned some layoffs. those were fairly dramatic. onent to focus on priority -- assets, as they call them. what are their priority one assets? ken: let's set the stage first. when it comes to commodities -- and we look at the date all day long -- the plane has landed and it has landed hard and there was debris all over the runway, the shoots are deployed. it is absolutely the hardest of hard landings that has occurred in china. anglo is looking at prices that .re down 60%-70% share prices are down 70%. they are taking drastic action. very much like the gold space. with their thought process is, big picture, is that they have a lot of assets, a lot of people -- let's get back to core. we won't tell you everything right away, but we are going to go out there and say, let's cut , cut down ourhalf people to what we do well to save the business. right now, they are trying to save the business. it will be interesting if other companies come to the same realization soon. david: i want to pl

now. eyewitness news reporter kala rama live at kings county hospital. >> reporter: ken, good morning. the worry this morning is about these kids. mother, killed her boyfriend, then took his own life all in front of them. meanwhile, that mom is here at the hospital in stable condition. we're told she's going to survive. surveillance video captured the kids 33-year-old mother walking with her 44-year-old boyfriend into their corner bodega. we've learned the suspect and his former long-time girlfriend were meeting to hand off the kids to one another, but instead, police say the suspect turned enraged shooting the boyfriend in the head killing him and shooting his ex in the upper body all while their two kids they had together, an 11- year-old boy and 6-year-old girl watched in horror. police say the suspects brought those kids to the corner of 91st and clarkson to watch the violence unfold before he took his own life in front of them. >> apparently there was a domestic violence issue which related to somewhat of a triangle where there's a boyfriend and a young lady and another man involved. >> i got a call that h

now facing several charges. josh j.: we are watching mixed showers approaching the granite state. a look at new year' s eve plans. >> it is so great. jean: a very festive honor for ken burns. it is also a chance to reflect on serious truths. >> no one covers new hampshire like we do. now, wmur news 9. jean: charges originally dropped against a man accused of holding a woman at gunpoint in middleton josh: those charges against richard penney were dismissed last fall. since then, prosecutors have held him on a separate stalking case. jean: suzanne explains where the case is moving forward. reporter: richard penney was originally arrested in january of 2013. he had stolen his brothers gun, threatened him, and healthy woman hostage. after a long standoff, he was arrested and charged but deemed incompetent to stand trial. the original charges against richard penney were dismissed this october because of a state law that says if someone is not found competent in 12 months, charges need to be thrown out. prosecutors then charged him with stalking for allegedly calling his brother while in jail in violation of bail conditions. the judge agreed today to dismiss the case. >>

. >>> one of the major questions is whether tashfeen malik radicalized her husband. ken bastida joins us now with a closer look at her background. what did you find out? >> reporter: relatives have described them as the happy couple. never showed any signs of being, you know, um, islamic fanatics, whatever that is. this is a couple that registered at target before their six-month-old daughter was born. they were outwardly as normal as anybody. but new clues are coming out about the woman who pledged loyalty to isis. her name tashfeen malik, 29 years old, born in pakistan,grew up in saudi arabia. but she went back to pakistan for college. she met her husband online and they got engaged in 2013 in saudi arabia. she came back with farook to the u.s. on what's called a k-1 fiancee visa which requires rigorous screening. so she had to sit down with feds. there had to be conversations. this is the couple's marriage license. they were married in 2014 in riverside county. both listing their religion as muslim. she got a green card after passing a background check. they checked her out. farook's sist
