it's the latest dirty trick rolled out by the nrcc.ewis web site is just one of at least 18 that we know of created by the nrcc to dupe would-be contributors and there might be one very big reason. democratic counterparts have outraised them by nearly ds -- $6 million to date. but do they really need to resort to these sort of dirty tricks? it would seem to make sense if your candidates are so great, focus on them, focus on what they stand for, rather than coming up with yet another way to dupe democratic supporters. joining me now is the reporter who first broke the news offer the legality of these web sites. shane, thanks for joining me. >> thanks for having me on. >> this idea of url parking, that's been around, i'll mad it, since when i was in the democratic party, both sides do it but this seems to take it to a whole new level, given that it really is a completely fake web site. it doesn't in any way, shape or form let you know unless you read that teeny, tiny, tiny print what you're actually getting into. >> the whole idea here f

. >> reporter: the n rchl krchl c boug nrcc bought up hundreds of urls.r information goes to the fake url sites. deceptive? he says it's pure genius. >> we're very proud of this program. >> reporter: you don't think scooping up the url names of democrats, buying up all of this potential democratic access and then using the democrats' names to -- and i will say, it's deceptive. deceptively deliver the republican message? is it sleazy? >> no, i think they dropped the ball. >> reporter: montana democrat congressional candidate john lewis, obviously, has a different opinion. he's one of the democrats the republicans built a website about. johnlewisforcongress.com. >> they are creating a website that at first blush is designed to look like your website. >> yeah. i mean, i've seen a lot of unfortunate uses of deception in the last few elections and it's just another in a long string of that. >> reporter: the nrcc insists the sites aren't meant to fool anyone and if you just read them, you'll quickly find out the truth about who produced the site and, more impor

we donate our money and not realizing it went to the nrcc.nasty things about the candidate on the web site. we all click on little acceptances all the time without reading the fine print or not-so-fine print. you would have a hard time getting your money back if the nrcc wanted to fight about it. as kevin says, this runs the risk of spoiling the whole game. if this tactic gets thrown into court, is the subject of a lot of negative commentary, if the candidates denounce themselves from it, you will not see very much more of it. it is a case of where consultants trying to be too clever by half and might end up taking what might have been an interesting, fun prankish idea and turn it into something else. >> i want to turn to what cnn's kate bouldin said about the domination. do you see it, errol? >> i don't see it at all. there is one reason which is called hillary clinton. she was supposed to have cleared the field back in 2008. you know, barack obama and his advisers will tell you inevitability is clear. if you want hillary clinton or joe bide
