is here are watching remotely and you are not familiar where through the ntsb is, the ntsb is an independentederal agency charged by congress with investigating every civil aviation accident in the united states and significant events in all modes of transportation. we issue an official determination regarding probable cause. we issue safety recommendations to prevent future accidents. we investigate certain incidents that present certain safety issues and we strive to identify and report all relevant facts, conditions, and circumstances relating to each accident or incident we investigate. when necessary, we hold investigative hearings. it allows the ntsb together sworn testimony from witnesses on issues identified by the investigative team for a specific event or systemic safety issue. , two flight crewmembers, four members, and all passengers deplaned at the gate. seven passengers and one flight attendant received minor physical injuries. i say physical injuries because this was quite traumatic for the crew and passengers and injuries we can't see, which we often don't talk about, and can

so that's a really good question when things happen and the ntsb's job is to find out what happened. what is the proximate cause? the thing that went from this point to that point, and that's what this investigation is all about and i admire homendy for making sure that everybody understands that it's not about what's happening now and that's all boeing has been focusing on is how do we fix the problem and what she's focusing on is her report which says this is the proximate cause. this is what caused this to happen. so it's important to remember that the ntsb does is not a regulatory body when this is all said and done, they can't say, okay, we're going to slap sanctions on boeing or we're going to put people in jail that's not the purpose of the ntsb. that goes to the faa. they make recommendations based on their investigations which are incredibly thorough and they've found some very disturbing things and those need to be reported. they need to make recommendations to the faa. the faa then we'll make those either sanctions, they'll they'll put fees and fines on it they'll come bac

he is a former senior investigator for the ntsb and an aviation security consultant, greg.uch for joining him in just seeing those images. i want to take another look at this video of the plane plane crash. i mean, the way this plane is falling, 17,000 feet in just a minute what does that tell you? and does it give you any indication as to why this plane crashed? >> when you look at this, laura, this is unusual for any type of aircraft, but especially a commercial airliner like this. this is called a flat spin. it's characterized as a flat spin where the aircraft is vertically falling. typically you'll have horizontal movement, but in this case, it is pure vertical moon this is very rare for an aircraft of this size. the big question is, how did the pilots lose control of the airplane? and how did the airplane get into the position of going into a flat spin? >> that's the question everyone's asking him and his plane, by the way, the platelets in question is an atr 72 500 and you actually investigated a crash of the same model plane back, i think in 1994. what happened then?
