i started the native plant nursery at the recycling center. not only does the recycling center not charge an admission fee, but it is the only golden gate park attraction that pays patrons to use the facility. hanc has always been at the forefront of green issues. hanc was founded to save mount sutro and to stop a freeway that would have destroyed the panhandle and much of golden gate park's. the rec and park commission supported the freeway. in 1974, there was no place to recycle in the haight ashbury, so hanc started a recycling operation. now, all san franciscans recycle, but there is still a desperate need for more redemption centers in san francisco. state law requires that consumers be refunded their deposits for beverage containers. sustaining the earth's biological system cannot be accomplished without native plants. therefore, a native plant nursery was created at the recycling center. we propagate over 60 species of san francisco native plants to support native birds, insects, and other wildlife. the nursery supplies plans to numerou

all the soil used in the nursery is made from composting on the site. objective one of the golden gate master plan, in its planned objectives and policies, calls upon the haight ashbury neighborhood council recycling center to increase its benefits to the park by focusing on the recycling needs of golden gate park and the immediate neighborhood. nowhere in that plan does it call for the removal of the hanc recycling center. it is also well known that hanc has developed a trophy native plant nursery, which is the principal supplier of native plants to various parts and open spaces, maintained by the rec and park apartments. the hanc recycling center has been the fiscal agent and interim funder of the garden city environment, which is that seventh and long bid, which is in supervisor elsbernd's district in the initial and said, something we are proud of and have advocated for. at no charge to the city to providing both native plants and carports. what is astonishing and what i think is " to the point, which we will hear from people on all sides of this is

the department also would like to continue the plant nursery on the site. we would also like to provide data material support, which is currently not being provided to the program, but with support at the diversity of garden within the city, but with not just the community gardens program. and lastly, the goal of converting paid space to green space -- paved space to green space. this shows the overall proposed concept plan. it is being faced for the development. the first phase being on the west side of the site. the area identified as the future phase would be developed in the future. now, i'm just going to go through each one of the elements. the first phase would consist of dots. we estimated that there would be approximately 400 garden plots and it would be assigned to both individuals and groups. there is also an area being proposed for materials distribution, which would include distribution of mulch, fines, things to support the gardners in the city, and we are also looking to continue some of the recycling aspects that are currently on the site tha
