public works in some cases used donations to the parks alliance to effectively bribe former director nuru in exchange for preferential treatment on getting contracts. connie chan called for an audit on the organization. the audit says the alliance is being allowed to skirt the rules the city has governing contractor bidding in conflict of interest standards. without adequate controls on its operations, the audit found, this benefit of philanthropic support risks being overshadowed by the possibility of corruption. the audit follows money, showing the alliance has taken in $11.9 million directly from the city since 2015 while accepting more than 44 million in private donations during that tim. even with tightened disclosure requirements, we still don't know the actual donation. supervisor chan says she hopes the audit will help make the alliance more transparent and accountable. >> while the city, of course, appreciate donation, it is also our responsibility to know where the money is coming from, and most importantly is to prevent the pay to play culture. >> reporter: the alliance told us
