director nutter. >> so, thanks, cam. i was wondering if you could talk a little about how the current drought will affect the renewable energy mix in 2014. obviously we won't have that data for two more years, but what does that do specifically to the hydroelectric profile [speaker not understood] drought and the anticipated impact? >> statewide there will be a problem having enough hydroelectric power as we have. that will be reflected in the spring. more particularly in the summer. it will effect hetchy and it will affect all of the utilities, particularly pg&e which has a lot more hydro than other utilities in the state. and they still want to produce the power, gather the power. the question, then, is what are they going to buy. the nice thing about hydro is that you can kind of turn it on and turn it off and have control and use it to balance your other renewable resources like wind and solar which are more intermittent. so, what are you going to use as a balancing strategy is certainly something that's facing all t

joining us now from philadelphia is democratic mayor michael nutter. mr. mayor, we welcome you to the program again. >> thank you, judy. good to be with you. and happy valentine's day to you. >> woodruff: thank you, and to you. and i want to start by asking you a question we've put to i think all of our other guests on the subject, and that is how do you see inequality in this country? what does the gap look like to you? >> i think, unfortunately, judy, it's a pretty complex issue, and it is far ranging, in many instances, certainly here in philadelphia, it is intergenerational. it is certainly about income but it's also about education, it's with some folks, quite honestly, losing a sense of hope and can't see a vision for the future. boots economic investment-- what do you see going on in your neighborhood? what is your access to jobs? the fact that african americans and latinos and many others of color, the unemployment rate gets published in the papers is nowhere near reflect iive of what's really going on in many of our neighborhoods and other cities

joining me now live is philadelphia mayor michael nutter. let's go back to the bigger picture here.these back-to-back storms, because they are back-to-back, have they crippled resources? >> no, jake. and thank you. i'll check on mom again later on. we're storm warriors here in philadelphia. certainly -- look, let's be honest, back-to-back storms don't help but they are what they are and no one controls the weather. they just deal with it. we've got a great team, a great plan. we stay on top of it and we just work until the work is done. so we're -- we fight back because that's what we do. >> now, we know the air suffered some serious power outages after last week's storm and for some people, for thousands of people in the philadelphia area, the outage has lasted for days. are you expecting the outages to be just as bad this time around? can crews do anything differently? >> fortunately, in the city i believe it's less than 100. that was a couple hours ago. so pico and their folks, they serve philadelphia and the region. in this storm they are doing a tremendous job. last week's ice

i'd like to invite up melanie nutter. she has an incredibly long list of accomplishments during her time and i'll just highlight a couple of her accomplishments. she helped to successfully implement or mandatory composting recycling policy to move our city to a city of zero waste. she helped advance us to be the electric vehicle capital. she's someone who helped to encourage expansion of our city's outreach efforts to our immigrant populations when it comes to environmental public information. she helped to implement the existing commercial building ordinance with an 82 percent compliance rate. she initiated our city's first drug take back program which has collected over 16,000 pounds of unwanted medicine. helped to plan our 2012 green economy forum where we are making sure we're putting people to work and doing well by the economy. and she helped to support the city's bio initiative. we have known me melanie before she even joined. she has been a long time democratic activist and community leader. we know hopefully why
