o'brien, thank you for your time and happy new year. is a columnist for the "los angeles times." this is jumping off the last caller. she talked about what happens with the future of the portable care act. a recent column of yours takes a look at this process of repealing and what it could do for those with pre-existing medical conditions. can you expand on that? >> i think when she said the affordable care act, she was talking about how it is limited at this opportunity insurance companies had before the act of doing medical underwriting. they would look at an applicant's medical history and if he or she had a pre-existing condition, they would be able to deny them the insurance or charge them a huge premium that would discourage them from signing up. they could do all sorts of shenanigans that basically, people with pre-existing conditions, and at that can be anything from a history of hayfever to a cancer diagnosis or a haeart condition. it would keep them from getting any insurance at all. eliminated that and made that the legal. -- and made that illegal. every applicant was
