chris o'connell has been at that scene throughout the evening. chris? >> reporter: well, lucy that game stop store you were talking about is still very much an active crime scene here at 21st and lehigh here in north philadelphia. many detectives investigators have the very tough task tonight of investigating the murder of one of their own. what started as a robbery ended in the murder of philadelphia police officer robert wilson iii. police say wilson and his partner were at this game stop at 21st and lehigh about 4:45. that's when two men armed with a 9-millimeter and 45 caliber hand guns walked in and announced robbery and started shooting. that led to an exchange of gunfire in the store. officer wilson was shot multiple times. one of the suspects shot in the leg. >> both suspects who were i'm told on either side of officer wilson firing at him at very close range even though he was being struck multiple times he continued to fire until the fatal wound was fired. >> reporter: police and fire raced to the scene. the frantic moments were heard over pol

o'connell, how did you get the job done? how did you win? >> well, you know, it's an interesting story, but i should probably add a little context here. you characterize this as a story of our survival. the truth is, that we've been largely successful in opening up stores around the country. the truth is, in most states, this is non-controversial. there's a small, maybe, handful of states where manufacturers are clearly prohibited from selling. and in a lot of those states, there are actions in the legislatures to open up those states, so that a manufacturer such as tesla, who's never had franchise dealerships can sell directly. new jersey was an interesting case, we had stores open, a regulatory action was taken to suspend or pull back those licenses, so we engaged in a year-long advocacy campaign in the legislature, with the public, which bore fruit ultimately yesterday when the governor signed a bill which had been passed unanimously in the new jersey assembly and overwhelmingly in the new jersey senate. so we're open for business and tha

within the last six weeks add one on folsom and 20 20th at john o'connell and two schools came together so there was increased demand for service so we added a bus there, and the folks in the muni transit assistance program they help facilitate getting students on the vehicles. they meet with principals and they often ride the buses when students are most vulnerable, so that's been a really successful program as well. we tried for that program as much as possible that hire people that come from the low income neighborhoods that students are riding from so there is a relationship and it's a known face and known commodity, so that's something that has worked very well and is a resource to principals throughout the city. this map here shows the free muni for youth activity by zip code. you can see over 26,000 students have enrolled in the program since its inception of march 2013. we extended the eligibility to include 18 year olds as well as 19-22 year olds that are enrolled in sfusd education services. the program costs over two years in the order of $8 million. our next challenge will b

students from across the district because the skilled trades really require the facilities and at john o'connell and up at washington and there's not necessarily enough to go around so this is a great opportunity. we found students interested across the district lasted year so we're working with the contractors who access the bond money and they support the internship with a stipend and each of our students have the opportunity to spend three i das a week at a high school and two days on a job shadow so as you know working in the skilled trades can be difficult with tools, and being able to have an authentic experience so that experience with the tools is happening at the school sites and then the visits to the businesses and the industries like muni, web core, san francisco airport and those are happening at a little more hands off and the students can put the two experiences together and it's been a really exciting program model and we're literally looking forward to expanding it. last year we had 60 students involved. 33 males, 27 females and we have 10 high schools, and i already told you ho

fox 29's chris o'connell is there right now. chris?> reporter: lucy it's quite clear that the death of officer robert wilson iii has touched this north philadelphia community deeply. take look behind me. hundreds of people gathering here in hope plaza the 21st and lehigh. this is the fourth straight day since officer wilson's death that an event in this community honoring him. tonight several community groups coming together outside the game stop store where he was gunned down. earlier we saw police officers walking the beat like they did every day just feet away from where wilson was gunned down, and eventually getting stopped by virtually everyone passing by just to say thank you to a police officer. now, just outside the store one day at a time drug and alcohol recovery program gathered with several community organizations to come together and pray for peace in this community and pledged their support to police officers. >>> it wasn't just a police officer. another black man an another individual got killed by another black man and

. >> i'm chris o'connell. it is true the word snow is in the forecast. fox 29's chief meteorologist scott williams life outside our old city studios. say it ain't so, scott? >> well unfortunately chris and lucy, we do have that s word and it's not sunshine. we're looking at the threat of some flurries during tomorrow morning. so as we focus in on what's happening right now on ultimate doppler we've seen some showers throughout date but most of that activity is now exiting locations in extreme south jersey and southern sections of delaware. but off to the west, you can see on ultimate doppler we are looking at some snow flurries toward the north and western part of the state and that's the activity that will be approaching the pocono mountains overnight and parts of our area early on your saturday. it is also going to be cold. temperatures right now in the 40s. so if you are stepping outdoors for your friday evening plans bum up because temperatures right now compared to the same time yesterday running about 20 degrees colder in the philadelphia area and

fox 29's chris o'connell is live in norristown with more on the conditions. chris? >> reporter: well, first of all you may be surprised iain to learn that penndot plow drivers are not preparing for tonight's storm. that's because they're all home right now sleeping preparing -- getting rest for tomorrow's storm. you see here behind me there's one that just showed up filling his truck with salt. hundreds of drivers will hit the roads late tonight as the snow begins to fall. it's going to be a long 24 hours for these guys. salt supplies that's the big question tonight. they are running low. penndot tells us it's had enough for this storm but being this winter the second highest on record for salt usage compared to last year's being the first. now tonight will most be a plowing event. penndot says staying on top of this storm will be a challenge here is what drivers can in the morning. >> our trucks one on a cycle two to three hours per cycle. which means till they get around back to that spot where they were two to three hours. at inch per hour you can expect to see t
