mel and falling a major prison guard corruption scandal in baltimore governor martin o'malley has signed several new pieces of legislation designed to curb abuse its allies are suppose to prevent the smuggling of contraband into prisons by guards and make it easier to investigate guards suspected of such violations. this legislative push follows a scandal in which twenty seven baltimore jail guards were indicted for eighteen criminal operations within the jails headed by the so called black guerrilla family prison gang which operates nationwide presence the guards were charged with for example smuggling of prohibited items into the jails like drugs cell phones. several cars were found to have sexual relationships with the inmates some of what's result in pregnancy is. one of the provisions guards caught smuggling a cellphone and two out of prison could be subject to define years. i walked out and a three thousand dollars fine another part of the law makes it easier to suspend officers without pain immediately upon being caught in possession of contraband items. there were objections from

gave that maryland speech, praising maryland democrats and the maryland democratic governor, martin o'malleytrying to raise the minimum wage in that state. after the president encouraged him to keep at it and give maryland a raise, in a remarkable bit of timing, as the motorcade was rolling out of maryland after that presidential speech, the maryland legislature did, in fact, do exactly what he was telling them to do. they did pass that raise. and so they are going up to $10.10 an hour over the next four years. the first rise will happen in eight months and the rest will happen after that. maryland's the second state to have raised its minimum wage in recent weeks. connecticut also raised their minimum wage to $10.10 three weeks ago. lawmakers in hawaii and minnesota and massachusetts are right now hammering out the final details for raising the minimum wage for their states. those arguments are all but done in those three states. and this is all just in the last month. there is movement on this issue. and, yeah, these are all blue states. at least bluish states. connecticut, maryland, hawai
