prominent current and congressional black caucus members are ing former maryland governor martin o'malleyemocrats are at a crossroads and we need a change now. of course, the dnc election is set to be held on february 1st. when you see these members coming, weighing in in favor of o'malley after schumer made himself the highest ranking democrat, what does this tell you about the race? >> it tells me that there's a real division. the real fractionalization with the party and some of it is ideological, and some of it is more practical, you know, one set of endorsers seeing someone as stronger than the other for a variety of things, but what's fascinating about these members of congress in particular, bennie thompson, marcia fudge, they are extraordinarily influential within the african american community, particularly the sort of political elite of the african american community, and their word is going to go a long way. it's probably not just in terms of their influence, but also who they represent, so you know who might be, you know, ye riding w them into a storm. they're extraordinarily

martin o'malley put out a diversity initiative, talking about hiring staffers of color, reaching outolor, talking about his support among diverse dnc chair members. there is also this question of diversity when it comes to idealogical and regional diversity, something we've heard chatted about amongst democrats in 2016 when we saw president-elect trump infiltrate much of the blue wall. those states like michigan, wisconsin, pennsylvania, which have a lot of working class, white voters. i think there's a lot of debate as to how to sort of form -- or i should say, reach back out to this coalition, if you will. >> senator sheldon whitehouse of rhode island appears to be pushing for an offensive strategy when it comes to dealing with republicans. i find the dynamics interesting. i'm a former dnc member, and members of congress are not automatically members of democratic national committee, right? some of them are, but by and large, they're not. 448 members are going to make this decision of the democratic national committee. i'm wondering what you're hearing in terms of how the candidate
