news 3's nathan o'neal joins us live from where the vote took place. >> reporter: lawmakers spent about three hours discussing this overhaul of the clark county school district. there were a few concerns brought up but this much is clear. drastic change is officially on the wa opposed say nay. motion passes unanimously. >> reporter: in a nutshell, this reorganization plan will shift the balance of power from a centralized office giving more authority to roughly 300 schools within the school district. school principals and volunteer boards will be given control over at least 80 percent of the money flowing in to the schools. now some have been critical of the reorganization efforts might be distributed unequally to different schools. but state senator michael roberson says the school district shake-up sends a clear message to the rest of the country about nevada and how important education is. >> we're 50th or 59th. how much worse -- 49th? how much worse can we get? we have to make dramatic change to improve. no one finds it acceptable we are at the bottom when it comes to k-12 education
