first woman elected mayor of oakland. the first asian elected mayor of oakland. first asian woman elected mayor of a major city in this country. she is proud of that. we are all proud of that. you know a lot about her story. you know she is a champion for youth, for schools, and becoming a champion for economic development in our city. you know some of the difficulties she has faced. some of them are old -- crime, problems with our schools. some of them are new and not necessarily expected like the loss of redevelopment funds, and occupy oakland. and she has had successes. she brought a great new administrative team to this city with our city administrator, under fire chief, the police chief, and developing really strong leadership for our city. she has also made some mistakes, and she has had the courage to acknowledge them, which is not easy for any of us. i know it is not for me, and she gets credit for that. the solutions to occupy oakland are not easy, and none of us can spell them out, but i do think that all of us, whatever we think about the occupied -- o

children up in the hospital in oakland. it happened just before 6:30 monday evening police responded to a call of shots fired in east oakland. once arriving at the 8600 block of bancroft avenue they found several cars involved in an accident. the car had been shot about a block and a half away as he tried to get away his car crashed into multiple vehicles including this vehicle which had a mother two children and another adult inside. >> we believe they were attempting to make a turn and were struck head-on by the victim's vehicle. >> reporter: now firefighters had to get the jaws of life to remove the people inside that monte carlo. they were taken to the hospital and two children were transported with minor injuries and the driver the bentley was taken to the hospital where he later died. luckily in this situation the two children did not die but last year three children died as a result of shootings in oakland. a lot of people are outraged, and we will stay on top of this situation as it develops. >>> police responded to

three people were shot in oakland. one of the shooting victims was a 13-year-old girl. we are getting this information in our newsroom. she was apparently town by police at 18th avenue and east 15th street. she was shot in the forearm and she was transported to children's hospital. police don't know if that shooting was connected to the other one you are seeing in this video. this was a shooting that happened just before 11:00 last night at an apartment building in high street. police found two men suffering from gunshot wounds there. you can see one of the shooting victims was sitting upright and alert as paramedics loaded him in the ambulance. he and the other man shot have nonlife threatening injuries. we don't know how many shots were fired or why the gunfire broke out in the first place. police collected numerous shell casings. various pieces of evidence. police have not revealed the age or identity of the two men shot. investigators are still trying to determine a possible motive. police are also looking for the
