first woman elected mayor of oakland. the first asian elected mayor of oakland. first asian woman elected mayor of a major city in this country. she is proud of that. we are all proud of that. you know a lot about her story. you know she is a champion for youth, for schools, and becoming a champion for economic development in our city. you know some of the difficulties she has faced. some of them are old -- crime, problems with our schools. some of them are new and not necessarily expected like the loss of redevelopment funds, and occupy oakland. and she has had successes. she brought a great new administrative team to this city with our city administrator, under fire chief, the police chief, and developing really strong leadership for our city. she has also made some mistakes, and she has had the courage to acknowledge them, which is not easy for any of us. i know it is not for me, and she gets credit for that. the solutions to occupy oakland are not easy, and none of us can spell them out, but i do think that all of us, whatever we think about the occupied -- o

christian captain in oakland, christian? >> reporter: it happened here on 26th avenue and i just spoke with a man who didn't hear the shooting but he did hear the children as he tells me the children of the victim saying, my father, somebody shot my father. that deadly incident happened here at the intersection of 20th street and 26th avenue and the victim in this case was likely shot in front of that yellow building, whack dollars up this block and they found some evidence and the victim was able to make it as far as this corner. >> all i'll say is that he was shot and he obviously died as a result of those injuries and we are starting the investigation and we'll see where it goes. >> reporter: now the family has identified the victim as 36- year-old tyron brad well. he did hear that the children were there and investigators say there have been no arrests and very few of the neighbors are telling police much about this shooting. meanwhile oakland police are investigating another shooting where the victim was shot in the hea

children up in the hospital in oakland. it happened just before 6:30 monday evening police responded to a call of shots fired in east oakland. once arriving at the 8600 block of bancroft avenue they found several cars involved in an accident. the car had been shot about a block and a half away as he tried to get away his car crashed into multiple vehicles including this vehicle which had a mother two children and another adult inside. >> we believe they were attempting to make a turn and were struck head-on by the victim's vehicle. >> reporter: now firefighters had to get the jaws of life to remove the people inside that monte carlo. they were taken to the hospital and two children were transported with minor injuries and the driver the bentley was taken to the hospital where he later died. luckily in this situation the two children did not die but last year three children died as a result of shootings in oakland. a lot of people are outraged, and we will stay on top of this situation as it develops. >>> police responded to

emotional school board meeting resumes today in oakland.night the bore was supposed to consider closing several -- the board was supposed to consider closing several schools to save money but parents and teachers interrupted their work. some parents said they were going to spend the night, what happened to them? >> reporter: they ended up getting arrested, nine adults, one juvenile arrested 12:30 this morning when they refused to leave the school district building following this very, very contentious meeting. parents and teachers breaking up that meeting. school board members got up and walked out. members had been planning to vote on turning over the lazear school to a charter school company and another school over another district. the plan for the lazear school is good according to one school board member. >> school would be reopen as a charter school on the site serving the same kids except we would have an operational understanding that we would buy the purchasing, the technology,cus towed -- custodial services from the oakland unifie

amy hollyfield is live in oakland. is the water still everywhere? >> reporter: water is everywhere! the rain has not stopped. check it out as it is rushing down this neighborhood street, down the hill. great example of why you need storm drains cleared. we have several days left. you can imagine how saturated the ground is already looking at this rain it does make it tough for trees to stay standing. a tree fell across the eastbound 580 on-ramp in oakland at coolidge avenue after 3:00 this morning, blocking all lanes it took a few chainsaws and wood chipper but crews were able to get it cleared before the morning commute. once the roads got busy the rain was really coming down, creating standing water throughout oakland's city streets and highways. traffic was slow, people safely made it to their east bay destinations. >> people have been driving just fine. fremont a lot of traffic. >> reporter: the public works department in oakland cancelled street sweeping. managers assigned those crews to be ready to help. there haven't been many calls for service this morning. the department sp
