oakland police are asking anyone with information or surveillance video to give them a call in oakland. henry lee ktvu fox two news. new and six san francisco police sergeant has been criminally charged in the robbery of a rite aid store in san mateo authorities say sfpd sergeant david cole was off duty earlier this month when he tried to rob the pharmacy of painkillers. is now charged with four counts of robbery, having a concealed and loaded gun and resisting arrest. officials say he resisted arrest by trying to run away. cole's been with sfpd for 27 years. right now he's out on bail and is on unpaid leave. calls attorney says his client is battling painkiller addiction also knew at six tonight. an inmate at the santa rita jail in dublin died early this morning and his cell mate is now being investigated in the case. alameda county sheriff's sergeant ray kelly said the cell mate was found standing over the unresponsive man just after midnight. first responders tried to save the inmate, but he was pronounced dead about 45 minutes later. neither man's name has been released. an autopsy

oakland is in crisis right now. council member lauren taylor today laid out his five point plan for reducing gun violence in the city. it calls for doubling the solve rate for violent crimes cutting in half the number of unanswered 911 calls doubling the capacity of crime prevention programs. and reducing disparities in public safety response between different communities across oakland. he also proposes investing in community and mental health services. while staffing is paramount. we also have to look at other ways of addressing our clearance rate, and one of those is increasing the use of technology. people are dying. little kids are dying bullets of flying every day and our neighborhoods we must do something called the 911 is like calling. i'm telling you. santa claus was released. so far, there have been more than 120 homicides in oakland this year. that's higher than the total for any full year since 2012. when there were 131 homicides in the city. well, also in oakland, the man who attacked a prominent chinat

primarily in east oakland a deep east oakland where i've got calls from community members about people spinning donuts into the 2 to 3 in the work community members were disturbed, had a chance on saturday to go out against park. 1, 8, where a senior who lives in a senior citizens around the park said that she was up to 4 in the morning because they were don't has been spent as you could hear him all night. so impacted east opened all of our residents in the area. but saturday over 10 hour period. we really seeing things are up. just over 10 hours, nearly 2 dozen incidents occurred, most of which we are continuing to investigate. it started just before 03:00pm. well, we were responding to a call of an armed carjacking robbery that occurred in the 2600 block of fisher avenue. the vehicle flipped prior to officers responded. officers. later located that carjacked vehicle and the suspect in the 4900 block of clark street as officers attempted to contact the suspect. the suspect fired multiple rounds at the officers. the suspect, the end. treat it to that carjacked vehicle. and again, spli

it's been a violent month in the city of oakland. there have been at least 9 shooting since november. first grant lotus here in the studio for us to. >> break it all down grant ken and catherine, the shootings have increased year to year from. >> 2020 to 2021 and overall you of gun violence up 33% this year compared to last. and as dan just mentioned in his report, the 2 most recent shootings occurred last night and earlier this morning, the victim from the shooting near lake merritt has passed away. the shooting happened last thursday on lakeshore avenue. officials found a woman who had been shot. they helped get her hospital before that on november 10th a woman was injured in a shooting downtown right near the fox theater. she is still recovering a concert at the fox said to be canceled that night because of the violence. then police responded to a shooting. later that night around 9.30. 97th avenue near be street. the victim there also taken to the hospital at last check that victim still in critical condition. back on saturday. n

speaking of oakland if you are going to catch the early flight at oakland airport it'll be busy. a lot of people doing the same thing. let's go live to justin andrews. it's getting crowded. >> yeah. like what you said. this is get away day. we are seeing that here in oakland international airport. people have their bags, they are ready to see family. its been a while. thanksgiving travel looking different this year than it did last year. here at the oakland rnt als pecting about 167,000 passengers over this thanksgiving period. nearly doubling the numbers last year. between today and sunday get this. they predict to see about 80% of the passenger traffic they saw for thanksgiving in 2019. as restrictions continue to lift and consumer confidence builds, aaa said they expect to see more than 53 million people to travel by air and car this thanksgiving. that is up about 13% from last year. >> if you haven't traveled since before the pandemic the checkway will look different. i are going to see tsa officers wearing masks and gloves. they will wear gloves and they are going to change

oakland police chief addressed the crimes today. kron four's catherine heenan joins us from the newsroom tonight with the details. catherine. yeah. boy, did he so frustrated open police chief leronne armstrong. >> says there's a clear problem in the city of oakland saying at one point. >> we need help on saturday. the chief says there were 2 dozen incidents in just over 10 hours. he says that includes an armed carjacking that ended in a a deadly police shooting, a roving caravan of thieves that targeted at least 2 dozen businesses and attempted homicide. another shooting that killed a juvenile and sunday. police say they investigated 6 more shootings. chief armstrong says the police department desperately needs help from all city workers in order to fight the violence. >> nobody should have to live through this. asking council to step up and have a conversation about how they can support our effort to address public safety in the city. i'm also saying that it doesn't need to be more police. every city agency in oakland should be foc

of a home there in oakland. take a look at the video. this is the video we just got in the news room from the photographer, and that shooting took place on sterling drive near the oakland zoo. both have been taken to the hospital. we are working to learn more about their conditions and we are in communications with oakland pd to see if they have information or a description of the suspect. this shooting comes days after a toddler, jasper wu, was shot and killed by a stray bullet while he was asleep in the car seat as his mother drove along 880 there in oakland. there's currently a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of jasper's killer. oakland facing a surge in violence. this year, 119 people have died by homicide, more than last year. in the last couple of days, the city has seen a lot of violence. a woman was hit by a stray bullet while buying a concert ticket, and a woman was shot at lake merritt. this morning we will keep a close eye on the condition of that woman and 11-year-old daughter th

we start this sunday night with more violence on the streets of oakland in just the last few hours, oakland police tell kron 4 news that a man was shot and killed in the city's latest homicide while simply trying to stop a car from bring broken into opd says the shooting happened around 3.30 this afternoon at lake merritt. investigators say that man who was the victim of a car break-in himself was trying to stop yet another one from happening when he was shot that man later died at the hospital. the shooter fled the scene. the death now the city's 127th homicide of 2021 tonight at $10,000 reward is being offered for information in the case. oakland police, meanwhile, are also searching for answers in the murder of kron. 4 news security guard kevin the shooter was shot while on assignment with one of our reporters on wednesday. he died from his injuries yesterday morning, kron four's amanda hari live for us tonight in the newsroom after talking with oakland leaders about the impact of his last even those who didn't even know kevin. now responding meant. >> yes and every single person i spoke
