while some blame the city of oakland, one person saying here oakland is in one of the darkest places it's been in a while. the port of oakland released its most recent economic impact report today, along with running the shipping port. it also operates the oakland airport and commercial real estate, including jack london square. according to the report, the overall economic value from business revenue, consumer spending and goods and services topped $174 billion. that is up 24% from 2017. at a meeting today, the port's executive director said they're always looking at ways to expand the business. we're looking at how to better use our space, how to what attracts visitors, what kind of mix of retail and commercial real estate and should be at the port of oakland, including jack london square. the report also says the port generates more than 98,000 local jobs. the federal reserve will meet the next two days to discuss another possible interest rate increase. cooling inflation does suggest the fed will hold steady on rates at least this month, which are already at a 22 year high. many

meantime oakland organizations and businesses are still reeling from the lost opportunity. today oakland's naacp chinatown community leaders and church activists called out the city for missing that deadline to receive millions of dollars in state crime fighting funds. the city administrator says they submitted their application to the state, but it was incomplete. the naacp says they are shocked, perplexed, and furious. >> so we've got reason to believe or better yet, reason to question whether this was a product of somebody missing a deadline, not paying attention, or a decision not to seek the funds. >> mayor sheng thao was asked about the city missing the deadline following a port of oakland event today. >> i'm infuriated and frustrated that, you know, city staff had missed the deadline, but to assume and put out false information that somehow we didn't want to apply for it, that's utter bs. we are putting in parameters so that something like this never happens again. >> oakland chinatown leader carl chan spoke out today and he said crime is hurting businesses with work

i love oakland, you know, and i cannot live anywhere but i cannot do business in oakland. i mean, it's happening all over the place to see and witness businesses like this closed down one by one. really strikes your morale, you know, and feeling that we are on our own. doctor jennifer tran is the president of the oakland vietnamese chamber of commerce. she, along with carl tran, president of chinatown's chamber of commerce , says enough is enough, especially after the city failed to meet the deadline for the state's retail crime grant. we missed the deadline and it's a reality. chan says it's time to move on and come up with solutions. the priority now is the public safety. so together we can make another request. okay, if the city cannot do it, the people together will make the request to our our governor, our state, and even our county and the federal levels to see if . they can provide resources. he's calling businesses to go on strike, demanding city leaders provide resources to merchants. we need protection. we need resources. step it up. dr. tran says she's stepping
