well, up next, who takes over oakland? if mayor sheng thao gets recalled next week, things could get messy. we'll explain. and halloween decorations get political in alameda. we'll tell you wh across the country, and it's a big deal in oakland. this is the largest city to have a mayoral recall since 2011, when they did it in miami. embattled mayor sheng thao is the first oakland mayor in more than a century to face a recall. her critics say she has failed to lead, making oakland more unsafe. they point to a spike in crime. last year, the ongoing budget issues and missed deadlines by her administration, including one to get millions of dollars in public safety money from the state. they missed the deadline. supporters of the mayor say she's making meaningful, meaningful improvements in crime is improving the problem of crime. they also question who's funding the recall. joining us tonight is dan lindholm. he's the former city administrator for oakland, also a professor of public policy at uc berkeley. professor. thanks for

you might recall earlier this year, the city of oakland and port of oakland changed the name of oakland international behind me to again, san francisco bay oakland international airport, to quote, reflect the indisputable geographical fact that it is located on the shores of the san francisco bay. san francisco says the name change has caused confusion and problems for travelers. i don't travel much to the bay, but if i was a first timer, i would definitely get turned around. yeah, you meant to come to oakland international san francisco bay international airport. you're at as long as they don't change it in the books, i would say it's confusing. yes, yes. yeah. but you ended up at the right airport. i did, i did. unfortunately, we have now seen actual confusion occurring in real life. confusion that was entirely predictable and preventable. individuals who book flights to sfo intending to travel to oakland and vice versa. travelers who've been directed to the wrong airport by rideshare services. that was sf city attorney david chu. when we spoke with him back in september. we did reach

our allie rasmus is live here in oakland to explain the complaint from the oakland police union. allie? yeah. the alameda county board of supervisors meeting starts at 930. they will go into closed session, and one of the items that they're set to discuss on the agenda is the county's portion of the sale of the oakland coliseum. now, you'll recall the coliseum was part owned by the city of oakland. part of it owned by the county and an african american sports and entertainment group, a local developer group has already agreed to buy the city's portion of the coliseum, and they say they need now the county to approve selling their half of the site. once that happens, then a $10 million payment to the city of oakland. that is now in escrow can finally be released to the city. now, the head of aa, sag explained the complicated, multi-part sale in an earlier interview with ktvu. >> we're looking for is the approval from the county to allow for us to step into the shoes of the a's. that that they have an agreement with the county to buy the county's 50% interest. they've agreed to sel

we hear from oakland residents preparing far transition and their focus for the future of oakland. >> it's important for us to figure out how do we move forward together as a city. >>> trump is putting together his new administration. we've got the latest on his transition and the transition team's progress on key cabinet positions. plus, when he's expected to visit the oval office. >>> we begin with the ballot count that will not end in races that are too close to call. at the same time, there was a big scare at the santa clara county registrar of voter's office in san jose earlier this morning. a bomb threat was read via email. deputies, police officer, firemen, hazmat team, and the bomb squad all rushed to the san jose office. we are told the threat was made on friday but was not read until today. more than 100 employees were evacuated. bomb-sniffing dogs swept the building, and no suspicious items were found. eeventually election workers were able to return to the building to continue the ballot count. we watched as election workers in the depths of city hall processed battle lots

on the steps of oakland city hall. monday, a group of city workers called on the mayor and city council to avoid cutting city services. there's no way that our administration can sit up here and say that they want safe and plan. >> and then turn around and balance their budget on the backs of the workers that perform the services. >> when they see percentages in the reduction of staff. we people's lives effect. we see people walking out the door. >> the city of oakland is facing a projected budget shortfall of around 93 million dollars. the city was counting on the sale of the oakland coliseum site to fill that budget hole. but the deal has yet to go through. as a result. the city is considering making significant cuts. the police department and fire department are by far oakland's largest expenses and the areas were cuts will most likely be made opens. deficit is a product years of mismanagement at monday's rally, these workers acknowledge that oakland is facing a financial crunch and offered their ideas for turning t

that is the latest from oakland. henry lee ktvu, fox two news. >> obviously, a lot of variables, but we'll have to wait and see what voters there decide and if they will. in fact recall these two women. thank you so much, henry. appreciate it. california voters meantime also weighing in on ten statewide ballot propositions and among the most contentious is prop 36. it would increase penalties for certain drug and theft crimes, all in an effort to try to target repeat offenders. if it passes, it would reverse some of the changes that voters made to the criminal justice system when they approved prop 4710 years ago. prop 36 on the ballot this time would reclassify some misdemeanor theft and drug crimes as felonies. as property crime has increased across the state, another crime related measure that we are watching tonight is in oakland. measure n would allocate tax dollars to reduce gun violence and property crimes by expanding police and fire services, along with improving 911 response times. if approved, this measure
