oakland. police say 77 year-old michael brewer was in a marked crosswalk at grand avenue and park view terrace. and when he was struck by that car, it happened about 7 o'clock monday night. this was in the adams point neighborhood that car responsible for the accident drove off. we've since learned that burrow boy, todd psychology at uc berkeley for nearly 50 years. he retired back in 2023 has held the title of emeritus professor until his death. the dean of uc berkeley, social services sent us this statement which reads in part, quote, he was an extraordinary teacher men toward and inspired thousands of students changing their lives with his fierce intellect and kindness, end quote. the dean says a memorial service for the professors being arranged. local police meanwhile, are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident or have video of it to give them a call. >> 2 people are arrested. they're accused of multiple counts of wage theft. the san mateo county da confirms that a company call

we're at 36 in oakland, 28 degrees in danville.t's one of the colder temperatures on the map here. and we're seeing some 20s as well in parts of the north bay, while san francisco is at 42 degrees. but then when we take a look atat the hig for later today, it will be in the upper 50s. and then tomorrow, just a little bit cooler as we get more clouds coming in mostly mid 50s, and we will have a cool week ahead as wednesday. we're only going to make it into the low 50s in some spots, but that's also when the rain arrives starting on wednesday and then on thursday the rain gets heavier as we get an atmospheric river coming in. there will be flooding possible by the end of the week, so we want to start making those plans. the preparations in advance of this storm system. also, there will be an elevated landslide threat, mainly in the north bay and the coastal mountains. for the sierra, we could see about 2 to 3ft of snow between wednesday and friday. so that's when the bulk of this storm system is coming in, and we can see the couple o

[music] for nine years, ladd phelps has lived at this subsidized senior housing complex in oakland provided by unity council, a nonprofit. the 72 year old tells me he and other residents depend on the services the nonprofit provides, such as caregiver assistance and hot meals. but the city of oakland plans to cut funding to unity council, one of 13 nonprofits, by the end of this month. >> horrified, horrified what we're going to do. how are we going to survive? how much more are they going to take away from us? >> unity council officials tell me they were blindsided when they received notification from the city administrator last week. they say they will lose $117,000 needed to help low income seniors. >> it's scary not to know you know what is going to be impacted. >> the city administrator said the cuts are necessa

layoffs are coming to the city of oakland.quence of the city's devastating financial crisis. that's according to a new memo from the city administrator. the first two city departments to see staffing cuts are public works, which will cut 26 roles. then the police department, where 19 positions will be eliminated. those are the two hardest hit agencies for this round, which will affect 100 workers total. oakland city administrator called the layoffs hard, but necessary to help close a historic $129 million budget deficit. unions say the layoffs are reckless, unacceptable and devastating for residents. baseball fans remembered rickey henderson, one of the greatest players to ever play the game. a public memorial brought fans, family, friends and former players together at the oakland arena. that's right next door to the coliseum, where the oakland tech graduate forged his career as baseball's all time leader in stolen bases and runs scored. henderson died in december after complications with pneumonia, five days before his 66th
