early morning fire damaged a building owned by oakland's children's hospital. ktvu tara moriarty is joining us now to tell us the reason investigators are calling this fire suspicious. >> reporter: they are not ready to call it arson yet but it's odd it happened in the middle of the night. basically where no one was around and it was on the exterior of the building. they are taking a look. but luckily no one was inside at the time. we do know this is an office building and owned by children's hospital of oakland. this was a single alarm and a neighbor called it in about an hour and a half ago. flames started on the outside of the building in the back. >> we made an attack on the exterior. got a good knock on it. and it was mostly to the attic and exterior walls and roof. >> reporter: crews were tearing apart the roof. a lot of them are leaving the scene. there was heavy damage to the exterior of the building. luckily no one was hurt. arson investigators are out here trying to figure out what started it all. tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. >>> s

oakland. crews at an office of seattle -- of children's hospital rather after a fire. >> christie smith just got to the scene. officials there are calling this quite suspicious. >> reporter: yes, they are. good morning to you, scott. i spoke with a firefighter here and he said here are the circumstances. you have a fire that appears that it started on the outside of the building. they started getting calls at 3:00 in the morning when no one was supposed to be inside or outside. so they are sifting through debris trying to determine what started this single alarm fire at a building for oakland children's hospital which is around the corner from the actual hospital itself. kind of looks like a home but they are using it for administration. firefighters arrived they say smoke and flames were coming from the rear of the building down a long, narrow dark drive way, one firefighter said it was suspicious. earlier told us to possibly be arson. no injuries to report. no one here again injured, no firefighters injured. they do have it knocked down at this point they tell me it's about $75,000 in damage.

oakland. investigators calling an early morning fire very suspicious. it broke out at the children's hospital administrative building. christie smith joins us live in oakland. what have you found? >> reporter: good morning to you, scott. in the last 15 minutes or so we saw representatives from children's hospital to look at the damage for themselves. what firefighters are telling us is that basically you have a fire that started overnight 3:00 in the morning on the outside of the building when no one was supposed to be around and that's why they are calling it suspicious. they also upped the damage estimate. earlier they told us about $75,000, they got a look inside at the attic area, now saying $150,000. started about 3:00 this morning. and it's a home that is converted into an admin building for children's hospital around the corner. 3:00 in the morning someone phoned it in. firefighters arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from the outside rear of the building down a long dark driveway. it took about ten minutes to knock down. here's what one battalion chief said about the

lisa is live at children's hospital oakland with this developing story for us. lisa. >>reporter: the little girl has been here at children hospital for some time. currently in a coma and as you mention she's not expected to survive and it is because police say it's because of this man about paul the little girl foster parent. he was arrested today in belmont after being on the run since march 30 when police in stockton first got involved. they responded to medical call at paul's home on east cleveland avenue and found the baby girl with major injuries quickly determined she was physically abused. she was air-lifted to oakland for treatment since then stockton police have been looking for the man. he turned up in belmont where he apparently has family. belmont police arrested him and turned him over to stockton authorities. back live paul is currently in the san joaquin county jail held for felony child abuse causing significant injuries. live in oakland tonight, lisa, abc 7 news. >> thank you lisa. >> breaking news from mount evest. 6 guys are dead and 9 people missing
