this morning, and oakland city councilmember is expected to join the mayor to call on governor brown to take the first step by halting permits for new fossil fuel projects. so the trumpet ministration is moving forward with the plan to low back the clean power plants. president trump is expected to outline his plan to help the coal industry. the clean power plan restricts greenhouse gas emissions. under president trumps plan, states could relax pollution roles as well as power plants and need for upgrades bans male prison guards from conducting patdown searches of female inmates or going into areas where women are undressed. governor jerry brown signed the bill into law yesterday. the new rules take effect next year. the law contains exceptions for an emergency like when a female guard isn't available and female inmates are at risk of escaping or hurting themselves or others. there is also a bill to provide lgbt educational training. the vote was unanimous. 37 in favor against it, none. it would require law enforcement to develop a training course for people who are on track to becom

shooting happened august 14th, 2016 on 15 15th street between webster and harrison blocks away from oakland city hall. police on patrol heard the gunfire. cooks was beaten and shot and killed after he stood up to a group of men harassing his girlfriend. the gunmen ran through a crowd that is where mccarry was hit by stray gunfire and killed. surveillance video shows a crowd of people scattering in all directions as shots were fired. police recovered a gun in the shooting, but no arrests have been made. at a news conference, police release sketches of the two men from the video as well as a third man they are looking for. >> i believe that the community knows who these people are. how they are involved. >> investigators and family members pleaded for tips. >> these family and friends are hurting. they deserve justice. and think deserve closure. >> this was their loved one that had been involved in a situation like this, they would want someone to come forward and provide information. >> reporter: yeah, investigators say any type no matter how small could lead to a big break in the case. anyone wi

the city of oakland says it's trying to make it safer for kids to get to school. s-walk safety features. that includes a lighted signal that will alert drivers when someone is in a crosswalk... corner curb extensions... speed bumps.... speed feedback signs.. and additional traffic lights. the safety features have been installed at six locations near elementary schools throughout the city. ( darya ) sunday marks the start of this years burning man festival.. happening just north of reno. over the nine days of the festival over 100 flights are expected to leave and return to the airport in san carlos.. and neighbors are concerned about the noise. the airort released a statement saying the staff will emphasize the importance of using the quietest arrival and departure settings as possible. other neighbors we talked to say.. the planes don't usually bother them.. the noise is just part of living near an airport.
