also last night the oakland city council unanimously decided to create a public safety task force thatill look at how to reduce the budget for the oakland police department by 50% in time for the 2021 city budget. this coincides with the national movement to defund police departments after george floyd was killed by a police officer in minneapolis this past may. according to "the east bay times" this new reimagining public safety task force aims to overhaul public safety by findinglt 911 calls and reallocating money to underfunded programs in the city such as housing, health services, jobs and homelessness. the paper reports opd's budget is about 44% of the city's general fund budget. you compare that to other similar sized cities whose police budgets register in the high 20% to 30 percentile. they voted down reallocating another $3.4 million. they decided to slash $15 million from the opd budget. this new task force is supposed to present its final recommendations in march with a final vote in june. bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thanks so much, bob. >>> firefighters still not con
