you heard the oakland county prosecutor argue that exact thing. one point she made is that this couple, jennifer and james crumbley, took out $4,000 from an atm near where they were supposed to be arraigned yesterday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. as you know, they were found overnight in an industrial building, a warehouse. they were in detroit, 40 miles away from where they were going to be arraigned. it doesn't appear they were about to turn themselves in. their lawyers arguing they were never intending to flee and that there wasn't enough communication between the prosecutors and their attorneys. clearly the court didn't buy that. that's why they set bond for each of them at 500,000, plus they're both going to have gps monitors, ordered to turn over any and all weapons. remember, these two parents are facing, each of them, four counts of involuntary manslaughter. each of those counts carries penalty up to 15 years in prison, $7500 fine, mandatory provision of dna. you heard each, jennifer crumbley first, then james crumbley answer each of the charges

sheriff's deputies in oakland county. there were more than 100, though, 9-1-1 calls that came in to the police. and this 15-year-old student. we don't know too much about the student but we know he was a student at oxford high school and that he was using a semiautomatic handgun today when all of this happened. now, i did ask the oakland county undersheriff if he legally had that handgun or if it was maybe registered to a family member. he wouldn't answer those questions yet tonight but said obviously that is part of their investigation. he did tell us there was a search warrant executed on his home. we don't know, yet, what that maybe revealed to them but we are waiting for update in the next couple hours. meanwhile, from those in this community, oxford, a very small, close-knit community, they are worried. they're wondering and they are worried that there were warning signs that this could have happened in their school. now, the undersheriff, though, with oakland county tells me don't believe everything you hear or see/

students without physical injuries are victims, too, said oakland county prosecutor karen macdonald.ut all the children who ran screaming, hiding under desks? what about all the children at home right now, who can't eat and can't sleep, and can't imagine a world where they ever set foot back in that school? john: the alleged shooter, who is 15, remains held without bail, charged as an adult with murder and terrorism. in a radio interview today, the prosecutor said she's considering charging his parents, saying their actions went far beyond negilence, and that the gun used seems to have been freely available to their son. michael rice is michigan superintendent of public instruction. mr. rice, thanks so much. what more can you tell us about these threats that led to the school closures today?? >> we often have copycat threats when you have an incident like this. we've had these sort of things before, not simply in our state, but in other states across the country. copycat bomb threats, for example. and they end up, for a brief period of time, adversely affecting a number of districts.

oakland county sheriff michael bouchard did admit his officers were stretched thing in investigatinghis tracking. >> surveillance team is quite a few people. and they work around the clock. those people are working the actual homicide. so, i would have had to have pulled them off of investigating the deaths at the school. we have to interview thousands of people that were in and around the school. we have go through hundreds and thousands of hours of digital evidence. >> it is an expansive job, obviously. cnn's athena jones is outside of the sheriff's office. athena, what are they saying this morning? >> reporter: good morning, boris and christi. we know that james and jennifer crum crumb ley are said to be arraigned this morning. now that they've made this escape, it's very unlikely they'll have a low bail, because they are clearly people trying to escape. we know that they withdrew $4,000 from an atm over the course of yesterday, over the course of friday. we know it took several hours for law enforcement, not just detroit police, but also fbi, u.s. marshals to track these people d

but the oakland county prosecutor and sheriff say, look, the crumbleys went to a nearby atm, withdrew $4,000, they did this at a place that wasn't far from the place they were expected to turn themselves in. that doesn't seem like someone who was trying to turn themselves in. one more thing i should note, there was a person, a third person who police say helped them get into the warehouse where they were found hiding. that person could face charges as well, aiding and abetting or obstruction of justice. those exact charges will be up to the oakland county prosecutor. >> joining me from new york, cnn legal analyst joey jackson. another crazy turn of events in the last 24 hours. i want to get to those most recent developments. what do you make of those parents, their lawyers, and the lawyers' accusations that the prosecutor didn't handle the situation properly? it was quite a back and forth. >> yeah, it really was. i know you're speaking about the arraignment. backing up one minute, the whole purpose of arraignment is to, number one, apprise the parents what was they're charged with. nu

megan fitzgerald live from the oakland county prosecutors office in michigan.e a court appearance. some thought it was yesterday afternoon. what do we know? a lot happened in the last 18 hours or so. >> reporter: good morning. a lot has happened. as you mentioned, we're talking about more than 10 hour manhunt here looking for this couple who were supposed to appear in court behind me here yesterday at 4:00 p.m. but they never showed up and of course, that triggering this multi-law enforcement search for them including the fbi, the u.s. marshal service as well as the local sheriff's department here. the attorney for the couple saying they left town for their own safety and on their way back, but it was a member of the public who identified a car, called police and that's when detroit police moved in. i want you to listen to what the police chief had to say. >> we got a tip that they were here, that possibly the fugitives were at this location. spotted, our officer spotted in a matter of minutes when they got here, they set up the perimeter. notified and activate

very glad to be joined now by the sheriff of oakland county, michigan, michael bouchard.here today. i know you have a lot going on. we appreciate your taking time to fill in the people about what is going on. let's start where steve harrigan left off with regard to where these parents are. what is your understanding of what is going on? >> yeah, you know, we very much as you did learned last night that the prosecutor was going to make a decision within 24 hours. she announced that yesterday. we learned this morning when you did that charges would be announced. so we began the process of going to get those individuals because up to that point there were no charges levied or pending. we had contact with the attorney for the parents and the parents said with the attorney that they were going to turn themselves in. the attorney said she would make that happen this morning. when we were notified by the prosecutor i've office that she was going to issue charges, then we went to move to arrest the parents. at that point, the attorney said the parents are now nonresponsive. >> ma

. >>> now for the latest on the investigation oakland county sheriff michael brew chard is joining me. i know it's a really hard time, i see it plainly in your face as well and listen to you talk about this on a personal note, it's got to be tough. as we talk about the professional approach here, are there details you can share with us about how you got those parents back. how closely coordinated, sir, were you with the detroit p.d. when that manhunt was underway? >> super closely coordinated. the chief is a friend and, actually, we've been talking this morning about a lot of the different logistics. we have a close, close partnership with detroit, with the fbi, with the u.s. marshal service. we actually had the border patrol, helicopter involved. there were all sorts of partnerships for michigan state police, so many we can't even mention. we work extremely well together, local, state, and federal, and as soon as the fact of the matter was that they were in the wind, at least not turning themselves in, we applied every leverage we could, got it out, and obviously the conclusion we go
