. >> it has been 31 years since the deadly oakland hills firestorm that killed 25 people and destroyedmes. the images and the memories of the 1991 firestorm are still quite vivid today. it all started when a small brush fire broke out near the caldecott tunnel. oakland firefighters were called to fight the flames. but by that evening, the crews believed that it was all under control. however, the region was in the 5th year of a drought at the time. strong winds fanned the remaining embers overnight causing flames to explode back to life. to this day. the cause of that fire storm is still unknown. meantime, we've been pretty fortunate in the last few months. there have not been any major reports of wildfires in the bay area. >> on this but talked with experts today who say the weather we've had and preventative measures are playing a role. >> in the spring, i was reporting live at wild fires at several locations in the east bay and north bay. in past years, the months of september and october, they be the busiest when it comes to wildfires. but that doesn't seem to be the case in 2022.
