oakland hills, 2 inches of rain. about 1 inch of total rainfall from yesterday evening. we are going to be in this unsettled pattern as we head into the first half of the weekend and that next storm system will move in. this will send another atmospheric river toward the coast but exactly where is the factor that we are going to be pinning down over the next 72 hours. let's talk about the lingering showers on first alert doppler. we have a heavier downpour just to the south of downtown santa rosa. more showers making their way from marin county to napa county. a little bit of a dry break in the moment. more rain moving out of the santa clara valley into the higher elevations east of san jose. we have seen a few cloud-to-ground lightning strikes. this is the pattern we can expect for the next few days. a couple of thunderstorms here and there. it is going to be hard to get anything done because as soon as the sun breaks through, another batch of showers will be moving through. we will see that to evolve into early saturday morning. be flexible because saturday looks like

remarkable san francisco, half moon bay, oakland hills all had gusts over 60mph. of course, the rainfall totals were pretty impressive. also so over two inches down at morgan hill, 1 in 1 third one and two thirds inches in san jose, just under two inches in san francisco and up in the north bay, three four five inches in some of the hardest hit areas right now, looking at live doppler seven, you can see that we don't have much of a storm left, but some fairly decent showers are falling down there in the santa cruz mountains and in the south bay, and the pattern has been throughout the day. the waves of rain, the bands of rain developing offshore and moving over the same areas, just drenching the same locations over and over again. we still have a level one storm for just the next few hours. on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale, bringing showers, isolated showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms into the next couple of hours. evening hours much lighter winds than yesterday. obviously, if you are driving, watch for debris on roadways. here's the forecast

behind us is grass valley road in the oakland hills. you can take a look at the street and see shreds of eucalyptus bark all over the place. tree branches as well, and trees that have fallen, including this one right here on the corner. this is what we estimate to be an 80 to 100 foot tall eucalyptus that came crashing down onto to this house. it's just part of the trunk that's left here behind us, and it looks like the trunk trunk split in half over the roof and the branches are kind of hanging over not just this house, but the house next to it as well. this happened around 6:00 during yesterday's storm, which there were wind gusts of 50 to 60mph. we talked to some neighbors this morning who described seeing and hearing the winds howling through the trees in this area, to see him shaking back and forth. >> like i was saying, the shorter tree is usually, um, don't catch as much wind as these taller eucalyptus trees, but everything. there was a lot of wind up here and everything was moving. everything was moving. >> the wind completely u

and that is happening immediately over oakland at this moment on up into the oakland hills, too. this is our heavier spot of rainfall and right on top oakland. so watch your travels on 80 as well as 5.80. currently those routes are looking very wet. so give yourself some extra time. also, as you're heading out towards san ramon, alamo oaks, on your way up towards walnut creek. you are also running into a pocket of heavy rainfall. there overall. that's about the heaviest that we do have across the bay little pocket right around palo alto. that's coming down. pretty good. but all in all, we are just seeing the start of what's about to be a stormy year. late morning from 8 to 9 moving more into the north bay, 9.10, to 11 for the rest of us pockets of heavier rainfall just leading up to the noon hour. temperatures are in the 40's to 50's. so this is some cool rain. snow level falls to 4,000 feet. so some of our tallest mountains in the bay are going to have a little bit of dusting of snow on the very top which will be kind of cool to see what skies do clear back out. sfo got a wet tar

. >> crews have been out here all morning cleaning up the aftermath of this downed tree in the oakland hillscrane working on taking the branches off of the roof of the home. you can also still see the massive tree and part of it that's really still resting on the chimney of the home. it appears that's what prevented the tree from coming all the way down on the home. inside, the tree branches came down on to the kitchen while the couple was making dinner last night. a beam came down and struck the woman's husband, but he seems to be all right and unininjured. all of the insulation came down from the roof of the home. now, i asked the woman what the moments were like right before it happened and she described it sounding like a jet flying very close by but the entire house was shaking and they did not think it was going to stop. >> the house started severely shaking then we just hear a big boom and the ceiling fell down. some of the tree trunk fell into the kitchen. and also fell into one of the bedrooms. so just destroyed the house. >> about ten miles from here, another tree fell on to a home

ktvu ali rasmus in the oakland hills, where the cleanup has begun for some fallen trees., the sounds of that roaring wind replaced this morning with the sounds of saws and heavy equipment doing some of the cleanup after this giant eucalyptus tree. that's 120ft long came crashing down onto this house here on grass valley. and scotia. you see part of the tree trimming crew, a man in the bucket truck there trying to cut branch by branch before they use this massive crane that they brought out here to hoist the bulk of the trunk off of that house. it was actually two homes that this tree fell on top of the one. the greenhouse you see there that had the most damage and then the house next to it. it crushed some of the solar panels because those branches coming down, this happened around 6:00 yesterday evening during the storm, which had those pretty strong wind gusts, as we know, 50 miles an hour. we spoke with the homeowner who was inside with his wife and their dog at the time that this happened, he says. they were sitting at a kitchen table when he heard what sounded like a

even in the city, we had winds gusting over 60mph to similar story in half moon bay and in the oakland hills. so many areas yesterday saw winds in excess of 50 60mph. even stronger in our hills. that is why we have massive power outages across the region this morning, and in those winds are slowly backing off. but we still have some downpours to deal with through the east bay this morning we have this line of showers worked through fremont on their way through dublin into livermore this morning, so we will be tracking scattered downpours throughout the rest of the day. a flood watch is still in effect for the region, but we have a flood advisory because a lot of standing water on our roads from the city down to the peninsula and the santa cruz mountains, this until 9 a.m. this morning. so it's a level two today, a moderate storm for those showers and downpours. thunderstorms and winds are still gusting. please watch out for debris on the roads this morning a lot of trees came down. let's talk about the winds. they're still gusty right now. by midday lunchtime. this is 12 p.m. they're backing

mount diablo, oakland hills, 32 and east foothills 45. and we've had gusts as high as 70 miles an hour in the santa cruz mountains . look at that as we go through the 10:00 hour, the purples continue to bring in the 5060 mile an hour gusts right along the coast and around the bay. we're 35 to 40 miles an hour. san jose at 4:00, and by 7:00 we're still looking at 56 mile an hour wind gusts right around point reyes. and then it's really about ten, 11:00. things begin to quiet down. but here's the rain. as we get through the ten 11:00 hour, you notice the reds here. these could be some isolated, strong thunderstorms by 130 in the north bay. and then you see a little bit of a break, but more rain is on the way. in fact, we have some of the flood advisories and some of the rivers and streams coming up in the south bay. the guadalupe river pah'-ha-row that will continue to rise as we get more rain through. 11:00 1.45 in oakland, two and three quarters in ben lomond. and then we add in monday night, where 2.5in in santa rosa, upwards of two inch

and then in the hills just above oakland, as you get past month, they're up there, conquer down to walnut creek, starting to see some light sprinkles. highway 4 from concord, out towards martinez. eventually toward san pablo. also looking at some light showers, same into portions of solano county o see it picking up too. cold front dies in this morning. and along with that comes this heavy rush of rain and some stronger winds here in a little bit as well. this is that forwardaline of showers that is currently working its way through. this is the one that's really going to provide the risk for us and really moves through here in about an hour or 2, depending on where you're at mostly 9 to 10:00am across the bay, yellow, orange and red. you know, those heavier pockets of rain. when you see i'm rolling on through, we will see it all the way through the noon hour. starting to see some breaks in the rain after that early afternoon, spotty showers and generally getting calmer by the late afternoon today. tonight should be a fairly calm evening tomorrow, a slim chance of a sprinkle or 2, but not
