and let's continue our team coverage with abc seven news reporter anser hassan, who is in the oakland hillsigh answer ama and dan. >> good evening. it has been on and off rain all afternoon. dry right now. the city of oakland says since last week they have been working on storm preps, trying to get ahead of this week's storm. midday in orinda was a mix of on and off rain, but not the moderate to heavy downpours the east bay saw on tuesday. in oakland, public works got an early start on storm preps in anticipation of thursday's rain. the drainage division crews cleared out gutters along wood street in west oakland. the city says in addition to clearing out storm drains, workers are laying down sandbags and tarps in areas prone to mudslides. they're also coordinating their efforts with other local agencies. some residents, like douglas morris, say things have been good this winter. >> it's comfortable down in my house and i haven't heard of any trees coming down. >> morris has lived here for more than 50 years. he just finished his annual maintenance inspection with the oakland fire departmen

in fact, 42 mile an hour wind gusts for the oakland hills.atlas peak, 56, in the east foothills, 25 miles an hour and over 30. these winds will stay elevated through about nine 10:00, and then after noon they will still be breezy, but not as gusty. 8:00 we've got scattered showers. they're widespread. they become more isolated throughout the afternoon, but a level one today keeping things wet. and then as we get into monday 4:00, the heavy rain is in the north bay. it sinks to the south. look at 930. we've got a very strong line of rain. rain showers to the east bay, the south bay tuesday morning. it's a nasty commute with the gusty winds and then 2:00 in the afternoon the oranges arrive. the reds arrive even stronger winds here. this is 530 that evening. commute on tuesday into the east bay by the evening seven 8:00. kind of treacherous out there. rainfall today, very little peninsula and south bay, maybe a 10th to 2/10 north bay into the east bay. we add in monday night. that's when that heavy rain has arrived in the north bay. so an inch a

oakland hills, mount umunhum 49 miles an hour. 7:00 tonight.ooking at some downpours in the east bay and the south bay. 8 p.m. starting to lighten up, and it is pretty much gone by the time we head towards the 10:00 hour. but we do have those flood watches up for the entire bay area until 4 a.m. tomorrow. the russian rivert guerneville under a flood warning. minor flooding is expected as it crests tomorrow morning. we have a wind advisory until 11 p.m. tonight as gusts up to 70 miles an hour expected possibility of downed trees and outages. i will say, though, the winds have backed off. pine mountain was up to 90 mile an hour gusts. los gatos 65. big rock ridge 88. and that was earlier. looking at the statewide picture, the sierra is picking up snow. snow levels are starting to come down. and here's what else is coming down from zephyr cove. a good bit of powder. we'll take it tomorrow afternoon. most areas will be looking at just a mix of sun and a few clouds. isolated showers though in the north bay. temperatures in the 40s and 50s. and here'

pine mountain 57 mount umunhum, oakland hills over 50 miles an hour. at the lower elevations.t will remain gusty through the evening and then really start to taper as we head towards tomorrow. right now, in those temperatures, anywhere from the 40s to the 60s, it's a level two storm, a moderate strength storm through tonight. watch out for brief downpours, gusty winds, thunderstorm chance, and minor urban flooding. we've already seen some of that roadway flooding and creeks and streams are running full, so it's not going to take much to get them to overflow. 6:00 tonight you'll see some brief downpours. 930 you will notice a line of rain moving through and then look as we head towards tomorrow morning while it is scattered showers, we're still going to see scattered pockets of downpours. and at 8:00 tomorrow morning, mount hamilton showing you a little bit of mixed precip. i wouldn't be surprised if it's a rain snow mix as we head towards the 4:00 hour. the showers are moving on out of the picture. in terms of additional rain, we are expecting anywhere from another 10th of an

a few spots like the oakland hills have been seeing some showers this morning. the car keane is as well. so do watch for a few wet areas. but overall not so bad to get your week started. rainfall will kick up more and more towards noontime north of santa rosa, advancing southward towards the evening commute from or in napa and sonoma counties. and then after that for the rest of us overnight tonight is when we'll see our very heaviest of rainfall, areas of orange and red on the map indicating that rain scooting through the bay area as we roll into your tuesday morning. tomorrow is when the atmospheric river sets up shop with us. and tomorrow does bring the greatest risk of flooding that we will see out of the series of systems here. and we actually do have a nice little breather on wednesday afternoon before our next round of moisture into thursday. also comes along with our lowest of elevation snowfall. good news for the weekend were actually drying out pretty nicely for both saturday and sunday. as for rainfall totals today, the north bay really season kicking

mostly mid- to upper 30s east of the oakland hills, around 40 degrees for fremont and redwood city, not as cool in the santa clara valley. those temperatures bounce back quickly through tomorrow afternoon, mid- to upper 50s. we start off maybe 6 or 7 degrees below normal and only end up 2 or 3 degrees below average, should see plenty of sunshine throughout the day and only a 5-degree difference between the coolest spots along the coast and the warmest locations farther inland. let's look at our side-by-side forecast models, the european and american. we compare them to see where they agree hopefully and where they disagree and have to sort out the differences. they have some pretty big differences heading into wednesday. the american forecast model sends the first wave of moisture to our south. the european forecast model tells a slightly different story. they come into better agreement for thursday with the rain moving in. it's just differences in terms of intensity of the rain. that european model brings more rain and wind to the bay area. they both agree the rain will gradually taper

and then up in the oakland hills to so definitely still a little bit active out there. now, as you got a little hint at earlier, we still do have some aerial flood warnings up in the north bay. still some very heavy rainfall overnight, which resulted in a lot of water into those already swollen streams. so please, if anything, the last couple of shown us be very mindful of any standing water, especially in rural, poor drainage areas. that's where that water piles up. that's where we can face a major life-threatening issues from it. futurecast, wind gusts is showing a much calmer morning. we had winds peaking yesterday and last night of above 50 miles per hour. so it was a aggressively windy day yesterday. futurecast does show snow up in the sierra still lingering with us a few lingering mid morning showers and then the rest of the day dries out. nicely. the weekend stays nice and dry. we've well or did at this point. i think we definitely need that come tuesday. we'll see a few lingering snow fall up in the sierra, but not anything for the bay just yet. intel wednesday
