road ahead. first of all, traffic is moving well except for the crash in oakland. a little slowing south past the coliseum. over here on the peninsula side, this is just at highway 84, university, but also known as woodside, that's another section on the other side of the freeway right here. signs around the bay are talking about a full closure, and that starts tonight, as early as 9:00 p.m. probably for the on-ramps, getting onto northbound 101 and this section from whipple to brittan will be closed. alternates are pretty easy, el camino, surface streets will be crowded. if you're leaving the south bay and heading north, you'll use 280, an easy way to get out of the south bay. 280 will be open all weekend. if you're heading to the east bay, instead of taking the san mateo bridge, use the dumbarton bridge because that will keep you clear of the construction and the backup through the area just north of highway 84. another option is if you're far enough south, take 238 to milpitas and then travel north. those who use this regularly know this area is congested over t

captain casey johnson says the hegenberger road corridor, where foot patrol officers have been working and along 98th avenue are areas in oakland with the highest auto burglaries, in part because of the number of travelers and easy access to the freeways. >> since july, with the focus of our foot patrol officers and our dedicated overtime burglar suppression teams, we've seen a 50% reduction in weekly auto burglaries in these two locations alone. >> but interim chief assistant jones says even more is being done. this weekend, opd is launching a pilot program where people can report an auto burglary on instagram and formerly known as twitter by using the handle at oakland auto burg. but if you send that information to us immediately, we're going to have staff monitoring the platforms and they'll be able to relay the intelligence or the information to our surveillance teams that we're going to have in the city. jones acknowledges that there are many unknowns as to how effective this program will be, even just announcing it may deter crime this weekend. but he says the department is committed to thinking outside of the box to figh

oakland home on tuesday morning to take bus number 45 on seminary rd. she was just 50 yards from the bus stop when she was hit and flung to the side of the road out of sightshe was supposed to meet another friend at the airport and when she did not arrive, her friends reported her missing. she wasn't found until the next day when police found her body just after 1 p.m. in the middle or the side of the road. confirming the driver left the scene and the last person to see her alive. her friend emily, says she wasn't meant to take that dangerous route. i didn't have the imagination that she maybe took a wrong turn and later i tried to trace that path and i saw that she's thought the shortest path was down seminary . and i was like the worst possible place to walk. the traffic data shows nearly 60 people have been hit on this stretch of road over the last decade. the city is planning an $8.8 million project to repave seminary seminary avenue, including pedestrian and biking improvements. and a heartbreaking tragedy for the victim's family. they tell me molly was a compassion, wit and loving person. they also say the driver was found by police, but they believ
