it's a message that two oakley families are hanging on to tonight. >> she's my best friend. she's really big part in my life. she has a special place in my heart and she will never be forgotten. >> reporter: surrounded by family filled with shock and grief, king describes his cousin, rochelle. >> she's really open minded person. really quiet. really nice. really smart. >> reporter: yesterday afternoon, roshel and her best friend were walking home from a park four miles away when a car veered off the road and struck the girls head on on east cypress road near bethel island road. police say the car continued several hundred feet before stopping. roshel died at the scene. her best friend was air lifted to a local trauma center. >> the kids were just going to the park to hang out. >> reporter: it was the first time they were allowed to be away from their families unsupervised. >> they were so excited. like, okay, we're going to hang out. and then tragedy struck. >> reporter: police identified the driver as 50-year-old kristina salvitti of walnut creek, booked on charges of vehic

one teenager dead and another in critical condition following a deadly crash in oakley.this is video from the scene. it happened about 2:45 in the afternoon where the teenage girls, ages 15 and 17 were walking through an area with no sidewalks. that's when they were struck by woman driving a station wagon. her car ran off the road it was found 150 yards away in a field. one teen was found dead and did not have id on her. police are working to identify her. the other teenager was airlifted to a hospital in oakland where she is being treated for serious injuries. the driver has been detained at not charged with anything. they have not released her identity. police are checking to see if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash and they are not sure of that yet. i will be here in alameda to as parents about what they are doing to keep their kids safe, especially after school is let out this year.>> we will check back with you later, avery. >>> two women and four children were killed in a fiery crash in southern california. two the area fathers had to watch as their kids
