i have been a practicing ob/gyn for the last six years. so this is from dr. kirsch. as chief to have st. luke's medical staff i'm writing to express support for the master plan. served as a member of the blue ribbon panel and can confirm they have revised plans to reform to the recommendations of the panel. in particular, cpmc has committed $250 million for the initial phase of rebuilding the st. luke's campus prucking an entirely new in-patient facility. it is also important to know that -- these recommendations were based on the analysis expressed by the community outreach task force as well. we who practice at st. louis -- will vastly improve the health care resources for necessary inpatient care and in addition it will facilitate full access to our patients for the service s of the entire cpmc system of care. for these reasons, the medical executive committee of st. lukes strongly supports the plans to rebuild cpmc. thank you. >> good evening president tierney and president olague and commissioners of health and planning commission. i'm the chief administrative o

i started working at an ob/gyn at the hospital. you might ask why would somebody join the staff of a hospital that is battle weary and has many failing equipments and being in a recession, serving poor people and i really can't say anything other than how could you not work there. it is one of the best and exciting interesting places to work in the city. my history at st. luke's goes back as a medical student when i recruited patients at the hospital. we are at the intersection of diverse neighborhoods in the city and in any one day, i really -- it is difficult to see people from any background in the city. medical education activities were suspended during the uncertain future of our -- and i'm happy to say they have resumed. we continue to stimulate the minds of the next generation of practitioners and i encourage you, expeditiously approve plans because we're really excite and cannot wait and there would be no shortage of committed people to work in this hospital in our area of the city. thank you. >> our final five speakers. de

i performed with my family straight through until i was a resident, an ob/gyn.l went to college in new jersey. why? because monomouth college was five minute away. we live inside long branch, and my father said that's as far as i want my daughters to go. now, we had planned to go to howard. oh, no, it was too far away. in order to keep the band together. now, you can go to college, you can do well, but the dream still had to be realized. now, i went to a very, very small teachers' college, but my professors at the university were dedicated. and from the university i went to columbia college of physicians and surgeons which was, basically, a quantum leap from a small teachers' college to an ivy league university that was the first medical school to award the md degree in the colonies. so here i am, a physician. and that brings me to a point where i wrote the second book, "something to prove." i want to read some excerpts out of the second book because you think you've got the brass ring, you know? you're a doctor. i'm a doctor. i have an md from columbia. so what
