fleming was talking about just a few minutes ago, what president obama's actually offering us is a reduced-price health care financing system that's going to take away people's choices. it's going to take away their ability to choose their doctor. it's going to take away their ability to choose the hospital, what medicines that they have. it's going to delay them being able to get needed procedures, surgeries, delayed in getting x-rays that are needed, ordered by their doctor. it's going to take the choices away from the patient and it's going to put those choices in the hands of a washington bureaucrat. and i don't think the american people want that. i'm not sure that they understand yet what we're talking about tonight in our second opinion, that government-run health care is not going to give them the choices that they're used to today, they're not going to be able to stay in their private plans because they're going to be priced out of the market, they're going to have to go to that government-sponsored plan that is going to markedly narrow their choices and what it's going to do is the goi

president obama has challenged us to take this on. this is not easy, believe me. there are health insurance companies who are going to fight us every step of the way. any time we step in to try to protect doug and other families to make insurance affordable and to make sure it's quality, they're going to argue it's too much government, just like you heard from the senator from kentucky this morning. what he had to say is what we hear from the health insurance companies. leave it alone. leave the system alone. can we afford for doug mayol and the millions of americans to leave this alone? we have to make sure that we move toward a situation that recognizes we face a crisis. it's a crisis in cost and a crisis when it comes to the availability of health insurance. we have to hold the health insurance companies accountable to provide us affordable quality care. we have to change the system so that we have early detection of problems, preventive care. we've got to wring some of the cost out of the system. one of the persons who made a comment on this regularly that i r

now president obama has asked us to take the cause one step further. he's asked us to provide concurrent receipt phase in over a period of five years for those veterans who are medically retired with a disability rating and for whom no longevity retirement applies. this bill moves to fund the first year of that proposal. this legislation will go a long way towards showing these veterans that they have not been forgotten. their service has not been forgotten. nor has their disability which they incurred in service. specifically this bill will repeal the offset which prevented medically retired veterans from concurrently receiving retirement pay and disability compensation at the same time. despite its high importance, please bear in mind this is a one-year solution. there is a reason for that. we have a rule here called the pay-go, pay-as-you-go rule which basically says when you enhance or expand eligibility for a entitlement program, you have to pay for it so that it will not worsen the deficit. in order to provide the offsets to keep from worsening t

in the united states and we would have to use taxpayer dollars to put together some some sort of welfare program, terrorist reentry program. then president obama released documents over the objection of his own cia director and former cia directors that detailed the specific techniques we use an average enhanced in turkish a program to get information from terrorists. next he suggested he is open to the prosecution of bush administration officials who were involved in the program. finally he refused to release any information about the attacks prevented or the lives that were saved because of the program. when his own director of national intelligence put together a memo for internal distribution about the program, he praised it. he praised the effectiveness of the program and he praised the fact terrorist attacks had been prevented. president obama's white house attitude that in the memo before they released it to the public. today, many weeks later, the president still won't let you, the american people, see the documents that show how effective this program was. last week in this very building, the house intelligence committee took up this
