. >> have you ever been asked to the obama white house on advice on how to lobby members of congress or the broader american public? >> i worked with the clinton white house on several issues. this is the first time for the obama white house. >> what does that tell you? >> it shows you they need the votes. this is a serious issue and they realize their message has not worked, and i give them credit for reaching out, and hopefully it can work, but it is getting late. a lot depends on what he says tomorrow night. he cannot say he is going to do a better job than president bush. it has to be an american unified national effort and he needs to show he is serious about it. >> why is there a message not working? what do they need to say differently? >> i have not heard a can hear argument.herent has the president shown by his body language that this is serious to him, because not to trivialize it, but to say all week, two weeks ago, that approval was not needed, and then to say that he was going to add approval, and then the optics of it, going to play golf, owing to sweden, saying that it
