the challenge to the occ in its current budget and also in any future budgets, is the step adjustment as well as the attrition factor. currently, those two factors cause the occ to be about 3 hundred hundred thousand dollars short in its budget bausz most of the positions are not at the midpoint but they are at the top step thus causing the occ unable to to fill vacancies and although we're budgeted for positions we've been unable to fill 3 vacant investigator positions and one senior investigator position because there has been some long-term absences at the occ through salary saves savings we're able to fill one of those 4 vacant positions but we're seriously short we're going to be working with the mayor's office to see how we can eliminate what is a structural deficit we're also going to ask for an augmentation to our budget as we did last year of one additional attorney and an assistant for our information systems business analyst and our pending cases are increasing due to the shortage of investigators. the controller in 2007 recommended best practices of 16 cases 16 cases 16 16
