ocd expert who coached leonardo dicaprio on how to exhibit ocd in the movie aviator and you see some of those characteristics of ocd emerge during the movie but howard hughes grew up at a time when germs were prevalent and fear was very big. his mother was very concerned about germs. it may have been sort of carried down to hughes himself because by his 20's, he also developed a very severe fear of contamination of germs to the point where he was done asking his aides to come in with three newspapers so he could pull out the middle one and avoid any contamination from the top or the bottom. the medicine cabinet was at least 15klenexes to make sure it was cleaned when it was opened. i wanted to read you one description of what he required aides to do to open a can of fruit. it was three pages long this memo about opening one can of fruit. one staff required that assistance wash the can with soap and scrub it from a point 2-inches below, the label was to be soaked and removed and all particles of dust, all sorts of contamination had been removed. serving the fruit mandated a certain se
