as sherri ly has been reporting all night from ocean city devastating wind gusts obviously along that ocean line, flooding as well. we'll show you some of the pictures that have come into our newsroom, these incredible photos. mackey's in ocean city almost looks like an island, a popular restaurant only open may to october, just recently closed for the season. now it's seeing serious damage from the storm sitting there in the middle of what appears to be the ocean. the next one here, this one to give you an idea of how those houses there are doing, this picture was taken this afternoon and you can't tell where the water is supposed to end and where it's supposed to start. the land just beginning there. as you can see that, that second house from the right appears to be nearly halfway under water. the third photo, here is the beloved ocean city pier. you can see damage was severe s we should tell you the storm will continue to batter the coastline and cause some problems with the storm surge for at least another high tide cycle, devastating waves there. we'll continue to monitor. we en

we go to ava marie in ocean city.tide scheduled for 8:19 and i imagine that is when you will see the surge hit the city streets of ocean city. >> absolutely. we are starting to see coastal flooding along the oceanside. we will see the worst of the flooding around high tide this morning. let's look at the beach. if you can see the waves, i know it is still dark but we're doing our best to light up the waves. they are huge, nine to 15 feet slamming against the shoreline and the beach is basically covered in water. the water is approaching that dune area on 32nd street. it is slamming into it, knocking down the little wooden fence and spilling into this walk away that you would walk on to get from the parking lot of the hilton to the beach. it is starting to flood next to the parking lot and we are seeing a pool of water near these beach front homes. some of them could see flooding inside the homes if they have lower levels. we continue to track this with the worst of the flooding happening this morning. i want to update

it will pass by parallel with ocean city some time around 9:00 a.m. tomorrow and watch what happens when it transitions, left turn into the coast of new jersey and there it will be really bad. there will be a 10 to 12-foot storm surge with winds between 70 and 80 miles per hour across the jersey shore there and then the storm will weaken a little bit as it comes inland but will continue west and park itself in southern pennsylvania on tuesday morning so the worst part of the storm for us in baltimore will be monday night, monday afternoon into monday night we will probably see wind between thirst and 50 miles per hour and a lot of rain, two to eight inches of rain expected out of this storm. this is a forecast of precipitation over the next couple of hours with the heaviest rain tomorrow morning across southern maryland and lower eastern shore counties but into tuesday morning, everybody gets into the heavy rain so two to eight inches, wind gusts between 50 and 60 miles per hour. it's going to be a rough one but it won't be a worst-case scenario for b

a lot to contend with in ocean city this morning. we do have light rain falling but it's much colder today and the wind gusting heavily and cutting right through you. there will be a lot to clean up in ocean city over the next couple days. look behind me and you can see one of those benches on the boardwalk. these were bolted down to the boardwalk. the wind and water pushed them down several streets. this is a similar sights all across the boardwalk in ocean city. there's more damage just in this block. look at this fence from the hotel swimming pool, dangling in the wind. they will have to repair that. we have seen several like this along the boardwalk today. the big thing they will have to look at is just the flooding. yesterday there were a lot of homes and businesses flooded as a result of all of this. so they will want to get out today to see just how bad the damage might be. we expect high tide sometime after 8:00 today. that's when we will have to see what will happen with all those. we have seen water on the bayside start pro

that actually created the ocean city inlet. we go down to ocean city near the board walk, and go out and walk along the inlet. that wasn't there before 1933. that hurricane was a long-lived event. by all reports it churned for two or three days. similar to this storm because we'll be dealing with this for two full days. then agnes, 72. it was actually nicknamed hurricane agony for pennsylvania and north maryland, and laurel maryland got an incredible amount of rain. hurricane agony, back in '72. the perfect storm, there is a visible. a hybrid hurricane. it had that same halloween timing, if perfect storm as this one. but the perfect storm stayed out to sea. look at this. the track of the perfect storm always kept it off shore, not just maryland but massachusetts. even with that close pass it still just destroyed so much of new england with the onshore flow and winds. this is a satellite photo of hurricane agnes, back in 1972, and you can see the broad circulation of agnes. this is when she moved well inland. was up over the gre

sherry is live in ocean city. sherry, it looks like the calm is coming now before the storm for you you. >> reporter: it is. we seem to be in one of these bands and one is past us and i am sure that we're going get hit by another one. it's a little bit of a welcome and given the pounding that we have taken here all day long. this is extensive damage throughout ocean city and the entire town prety much is sealed off. you can not get out or in. the bridges have been closed expect for emergency vehicles. the streets are flooded and we have homes that are flood and if you look at the ocean you can see this huge storm surge that's coming in. this is the time that the town said that they expected to have the worst of sandy coming through and we're seeing it. one thing that is sort of saving the beach here is the winds seem to be sheering off a little bit of the waves and holding them back. we're still seeing over wash on to the board walk. it's the same thing that we saw on high tide earlier this morning as well. throug

waves were something to sa we're still seeing some of standing water in ocean city. notice all the debris on the road. this is what we're concerned about, things clogging the drains. this is the same concern we're seeing around baltimore city. so many leaves have yet to fall . temperatures in the low 40's. the wind out of the south. that is what we're dealing with today. things are getting better in ocean city. the wind is gusting up about 60 miles per hour. >> so much better this morning. kim dacey is in annapolis. how are things looking this morning? >> it is a lot better today. things have really eased up. we have a steady rain falling. nothing like we were seeing like yesterday. i spoke to the emergency management folks. crews have been out since about midnight, looking for any kind of damage. there will be an update around 6:00 a.m. we saw some localized flooding and some standing water on the roadways. it still continues to rain here. the shelter is still open. 50 people and pets are there. and the call center is still open if you need to call for assistance. th

let's go to ocean city, maryland. that's where we find our sandra endo there braving the heavy wind already. >> just like george said, fredricka, we've been feeling a steady wind, about 25 miles an hour here in ocean city. we just came off high tide. check out the waves here. a very rough surf. if anything, ocean city is not experiencing their peak touring season right now, so that may be the only silver lining of this whole storm, but they're certainly bracing for the worst. the mayor here ordering a mandatory evacuation downtown ocean city as well as voluntary evacuation for low-lying areas. also, non-residents are also being forced away from ocean city right now as they're preparing for this storm, and we watched a lot of local residents board up their businesses, board up their homes because the threat of this storm is the high tide which is about to hit in about five hours. the effects of this storm, again, a lingering, long duration of rain and wind, plus the high tide cycles. that's a combination for disaster.
